A bit of a bloggy type post:
I've just come back off a short vacation. My plan was to place my order now, not least so I'd be back home to take delivery after another forthcoming longer vacation in a couple of weeks time.
So I've entered my usual pre-ordering dithering phase in which I brace myself for dropping so much money.
But an issue has arisen to complicate things. I run my current box 24x7, but I shut it down while I was away (as you do). On starting it back up again, it turns out that two of my drives have given up the ghost. I now need to factor in the cost of replacing the drives and seeing if I can recover the data from the old ones. It wasn't critical data, but it's inconvenient none-the-less. I see an 8TB HGST He8 in my future.
Ironically, my prospective new TH10A would sport much better hard drive cooling.
One failed drive is a 1TB HGST from 2007 (or thenabouts). The other is a 4TB HGST that I bought last year; I shall have to see if I can recover the data before RMA'ing it.Edited by meson1 - 9/4/15 at 3:14am
