Hmm.. Is it that good? I'm not so sure.. 8 VRM phases vs 12 for GPU, lower stock clockspeeds, lower fan activation temperature.. Granted the noise levels are better - 39DBA compared to 41DBA according to the GURU3D reviews, but that is the only true plus I'd give it.
Plus the STRIX looks sexy
EDIT
Actually the temps really aren't that great with the STRIX.. Hmm....
What the heck is wrong with this card? Loses by a large margin in temps, is only 1-2 fps faster than the g1, louder than the g1, uses more power than the g1, loses in overclocking.
For such a massive cooler you'd think it would do a better job. Maybe those heatpipes that aren't touching the GPU are really hurting the cooling performance?
EDIT
Read this article, it shows that the Fury X is being listed in Germany as having a STRIX variant, so the cooler used here would be used for it too.

i would be interested in seeing a review of sorts of this with an EK block on it.
Would also have liked to see a bit more in the review about the auto extreme process and a few pics and details about the PCB.
Very decent card overall. I understand why the temps are what they are as explained. That said if I was in the market for this card, i'd holdout for a waterblock especially as Strix is a named GPU brand and it's likely one would be forthcoming.
Seems to be a pickem in the 980 ti space.

While I understand the point of the reviewer bringing this up, I don't think anyone here on OCN cares about a whole (in their control) 26mhz except in the case of ASUS competitors pointing it out....
The card runs passive up to 50C. The fans are not on, thus higher temps.
At load, it runs the fans at a low RPM with a high factory OC, thus higher temps.
This is an out of the box review, so these results are expected.
Look at the OC section. They have the MSI card running at 65% but the STRIX running at 55%.
ASUS is using slower fan speeds to run closer to passive. Under 50C the fans turn off. That's doesn't happen on the other cards.
Out of the box, above 50C the STRIX runs at 46% fan speed. That's a pretty low speed for load temperatures with a 20-24% factory OC.
I have the Zotac Amp and I have something interesting to say that no one else has probably tried. First of all the cooler is decent I suppose, I have a custom bios with 1.268vc and my card is at 1540mhz core 8000mhz mem, with the Amp cooler at a noisy 80% my load temps under heavy gaming were reaching 81-82c.
I got curious and installed my old Accelero 3 cooler which is barely audible even at 100% fan speed. I was able to keep the stock VRM cooling in tact on my Zotac card which is a bonus and I was also able to keep the backplate in tact. Too my surprise using the same voltage and clock speeds my Load temps are now 58-60c compared to 81-82c! Before anyone asks I did try removing the Amp Cooler and replaced the tim but it made little to zero difference.
I think the artic cooler is a good way for those to go who do not want to deal with water cooling and im betting my temps are comparible to some of the cheaper AIO setups and also a lot less trouble.
I have noticed that those Accelero 3 coolers always drop temps dramatically. I am not sure why Asus/MSI/Zotac hasn't adopted a similar design for their aftermarket cards.
i think a custom fan curve will fix that because the pcb and heatsinks heat from being in passive mode
this card was meant to be silent overall not just cooling performance if you want both it will cost a bit more
the clocks in load without oc by user from Msi are slightly different even the power consumption like less 40w
maybe i tested different versions at work but they clock differently in gaming
