I've received and mounted my replacement block.
The contact is better now, and the spacers on the backplate are taller so I don't have clearance issues around the PCIe power connectors.

Temperature is in the mid 50s while benchmarking, better than the previous 85°C ! No throttling, I was even able to OC the card.

2 standoffs around the GPU were defective (bad inner threading, the screws would not go in). I had to salvage some from my other block. Depending on the standoff I took, the space between the gpu and the block would change so it seems to be the source of the problem.

All in all I have mixed feelings about this block. Sure I'm able to water cool my non reference card, but I don't find the temps to be that amazing and there definitively are build quality issues.

Next card, I'll make sure to get a standard one!

Hey guys,

Does Alphacool sell the heatsinks that accompany the GPX waterblock separately?

Thanks,

You mean the aluminium part without the core block? If you mean that then yes - they sell those separately as well as far as I am aware.

Just blocked my GTX 1080. Really happy with this universal solution. Previously I was using heat kill gpx.
Can anyone advise on passive cooling for an R9 Nano if using the Nexxxos GPX Pro Solo? I'm figuring if I leave the baseplate the block will still contact the GPU as well as absorb some board heat and it'll still have the vrm cooler attached for additional cooling - would i just need a fan pointing at it at that point?
I would really not suggest passive cooling the Nano if I understand correct that you want to just strap the block to it and not put any water in there (it is a water block).

If the aim is to make it quiet without any fans then go for as quiet pump as you can find and put one of the monster rads into the loop. Nova 1080 for example.

No what I am saying is I would take the Nexxxos GPX Pro solo(posted below) attach to a 120mm radiator and call it a day. What would have passive cooling is the VRM ect with heatsinks and I'm assuming I should get something like a case PCI expansion slot fan mount(also shown below) as this would net a total cost of maybe $100 for the entire custom GPU cooling loop.

http://www.aquatuning.us/water-cooling/gpu-water-blocks/gpu-chip-cooler/22056/alphacool-nexxxos-gpx-pro-solo-mit-backplate-schwarz?sPartner=googleshoppingusa&gclid=CjwKCAjw3_HOBRBaEiwAvLBbol2Ib3hbHD3GSGWTTwVcaGfWT287KUr6U69xgar9xCzrH_Gbw87vhhoCSiIQAvD_BwE

https://www.moddiy.com/products/modDIY-PCI-Slot-Fan-Mounting-Kit-%2880%7B47%7D90mm-Fan-x-2%29.html

I've also looked into a Rajintek Morpheus II and the NZXT Kraken G10 & G12 and think the G12 would be the best fit out of those three as the Morpheus would require case modding for the heat pipes that would stick out the back side and the G12 is bigger than the G12.

Hi Folks,

First time poster here. Was looking for a little help if possible. I picked up a Alphacool Eiswolf 240 GPX Pro ATI RX Vega and I believe the pump has died on me. Here are the steps I have taken:

1. Initially install of the card results in core tempts of 50C and hbm temps of 50C, but the hotspot was well over 100. A Reddit post suggested that I may have not have proper contact with the core.

2. I removed everything and started from scratch. This time I had the same 50C\50C temperatures with the hot spot hitting a max of 60C on load. Great! This is the type of improvement I was hoping for.

3. Ran Time Shift benchmark and noticed my temps remained cool.

4. Bumped Power Limit to 20% and noticed clock speeds were reaching 1600 (previously only reached 1500).

5. I ran the test with the Power limit slider to 50%. Time shift crashed at this point

6. I restarted my computer and went back to the Balance settings in Wattman. Ran Time Shift again and the system crashed almost instantly.

7. When I restarted I checked GPU-Z. Idle temps were sitting at around 60 (40 on fresh boot after I let it sit and cool). This is incredibly high. Any actual GPU activity at this point would cause my PC to freeze.

8. I then got a little closer and noticed that I couldn't hear any pump noise. I have a few fans in my case, so I wasn't sure if I would be able to hear it. The blue light on the alpha cool pump was lit up, but that did not give me confidence that the pump was actually functioning.

9. I then removed the pump power from the motherboard (which I have tried directly into the psu and other motherboard connectors). The temperatures were exactly the same. To me this indicated that the pump stopped working all together.

Is there some trick to getting the pump going or do I need to look into RMA'ing this device. It was difficult to get on and the stock cooler is in shambles. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that the RMA process will take weeks (as it took 3 weeks for the part to arrive from a modmymods in the US - I live in Canada).

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Is it hooked up to your motherboard? How are you co trolling the pump? Hearing isn't a given - I'm hard of hearing and cant hear my corsair h100i v2 pump AT ALL and I'd think, from experience, that the temp would just keep rising... I'd try resitting the block one more time after visual inspection of the die(make sure you didn't crack it or damage the interposer. Basically my initial guess would be its not sitting properly, like its too tight at one corner or something... I know this can cause issues with CPU's so just go through the install very carefully one last time... And this is after checking your pump speed in OS/switching which fan connectwr you are connected to.
It's currently connected directly to the psu using a molex adapter (EVGA 750W G2). As I understand it - that should provide a full 12 volts with no control over the pump (it should run at max).I have tried Chassis Fan connector 2 and 3 and the CPU Fan connector (Asus p8z77-v pro). I'll take it apart and try resetting everything tonight and see if that fixes the issue. It was strange that the temperatures were good for the first hour or so and the first time it started up I did hear a gargling of the water making its way through the pipes.

I should mention that when the pump was connected to the motherboard it would show up as NA in the bios and windows would reflect the same. The light on the pump is on, but I don't think it's working...

Thanks,

Vlaho
