I think an 860K would have been better. Vishera has 10% higher IPC than BD, and the 860K (forgot arch name) has 10% higher than Vishera. But I hope he's happy with it as it will last him a long time, especially with DX12.

I prefer the 8 cores as more and more games are able to use them thanks to the consoles

These are synthetic best case scenario's but it doesn't matter, the point is that the CPU is more than good enough.

It's not consoles, it's AMD and Mantle you should thank.

I feel like board manufactures have nearly given up on the platform. ASRock and MSI tried recently but they're not that great. Either lacking in quality vrm or lack LLC.

Before anyone suggests a board be sure you've used it first. Chances are I probably have used it and have a good reason not to recommend such a board.

I just want a stout am3+ mATX so badly lol frown.gif

Asrock recently released the first mATX AM3+ 970: Asrock 970M Pro3

AMD killed mantle after forcing ms to make dx12 to decrease CPU overhead

Well, that was to be expected... Microsoft in the past years is getting really desperate into forcing updated OS on you, so having an exclusive DX12 on her new OS, was the perfect way to make you upgrade (plus, you get free spyware and keylogger!).

Phrasing might be wrong with all the rumors floating around about MS buying AMD. Might be a great deal in the end, AMD is cheaper and sufficient for gaming even now.
Don't get your hopes up tho, current CEO sees only mobile market.

I've used 3 of them and 4.5 ghz on AMD FX8/FX6 are handled easily. One board running for 9+ months with FX 8320 @ 4.5ghz 24/7

That board since rev 2.0 is worthless other than running stock. If you overclock past the turbo you have all sorts of issues. Whatever you do, don't let the PC sleep or reboot either. Oh and the wonderful random boot looping too. I've had several of these paired with different PSU's, GPU's and RAM and they all did the same thing.

Owned two of them actually and both went LN2. Both working motherboards afterwards. One LN2 with Phenom II x4 980BE and DICE with FX-8350 Other did TEC @5ghz below freezing DICE 6500mhz benching LN2 -174c @ 7685 some odd mhz 2.076v

That's pretty stout IMO. 2v cpu on 4 VRM, multiple below freezing runs.... Asus makes some decent stuff.
That's interesting and would have always considered the 78lmt the better board. I look into it, but I'm more interested in a GENE type AM3+ board smile.gif

I'm aware and originally made the forum aware of this before it hit the market. It's a junk. Unless you like trying to keep its extremely high socket temps at bay? I know some people like to Frankenstein their cases with fans zip tied all over their board to cool it lol...that's not for me smile.gif

is it really that bad?, haven't find yet any review about it.
