Best GPU(s) for $300-350?

Thread Starter
I have around $350 atm, and not sure what the best option for a GPU would be.
I am really thinking about getting a 7990 (theres a couple for $320 on Ebay right now) - as it has killer performance for that price, but is there better options? I was also perhaps thinking of a 390, the high end of what I can spend ... or just getting a decent gtx 760 or something for (relatively) cheap, as I'm currently running 1920x 1200, and it does not take a huge amount of power to run that resolution well these days. That being said I would like a GPU that can do higher than 1080p at least decently well in case I upgrade my monitor at some point.

(if you are wondering, I'm running a GTS 450 now, with my otherwise great system. - 3970x, 8 gbs ram, msi mobo, OCZ pcie ssd... I need a new gpu to have a balanced system again, as my r9 270 that I had... died axesmiley.png )

Thoughts? Recommendations? Let me know!
Thanks!

I'd go with R9 390 for that price range. It provide the best price : performance at anything above 1080p. comes equipped with 8GB which while seems excess for a single card, but comes in handy in a CFX. Or you could go GTX 970 from Nvidia.

Best bang for buck is R9 290. Preferably sapphire. The dual card you mention is nice, but driver releases are slow to come by, which isnt good if you like to play current games.

Get a R9 390 8GB. best value for your money. lots of VRAM to keep you well positioned for future games. R9 390 is 7-8% slower than R9 390X at stock. At the same clocks that perf diff is just 3-5%. excellent value for money.

Ok, I think I might go for the 390 then- maybe a 290x/290 8GB if there's a good deal on one.
(In either case I'll likely wait until after Quakecon, and see what I still have left to spend wink.gif )

Thanks for the input!

I got the Sapphire Nitro OC (With Backplate) R9 390 on Black friday, for $300. It performs quite well, and keeps nice and cool under load (under 60 C even after long gaming sessions). Not much luck overclocking, (maybe 100 mhz on core on a good day, mem is pretty good clocking though), but tbh it really doesn't need it- its such a beast as is.

Only issues i've had is that W10 is sometimes pissy with drivers, but thats just an annoyance.
