Not a bad idea really. You could drop an 8320E in, give it a modest OC to 4Ghz.

I'd probably recommend swapping out the GPU for something like a used GTX770 or used R9 280(X) if possible.
Here is a little info on the 8320E. I have one pair with a crapy MSI mATX 4+1 and I can do 3.8ghz with 1.25v. I can't wait until I can get a good mobo and a good cpu cool to see what this CPU can do.

The more i read about em the more it seems like the 8320e are only held back by voltage. The better your board and cooling solution the higher the clock those bad boys get. Im curious of what the higher clocks people are getting on those with high end boards and a legit top end water coolers is. Id be willing to bet they are 4.5ish on the regular with the right components.

8 cores at 4.5 GHz with DX12...yes please.

I've pushed mine pretty far. It's currently at 5ghz @1.48v and is stable. Package temps get to 60c and core gets to about 56c.

Let's not leave out the fact that if we want this kid to, at-all, believe DIY PC gaming is awesome, then YOU HAVE TO GET AN SSD IN THAT THING!!!

That's a decent motherboard for sure, so the obvious choice for the CPU is the cheapest 83** chip, running at max clocks on stock voltage (no point in building a problematic PC for a noob)

The 500W PSU is going to be a big red flag... I'd get at least 600-750W Rosewill or something budget friendly, yet reliable.

If you can get a GTX 780, great, that's a good card for his needs, but there are tons of 290's going for a good price used (as stated several times already)

I built my son's rig from stuff I got off of craigslist for $250 in total, and he loves it....it still runs everything pretty well, but his CPU is due for an upgrade. Probably going to upgrade the wife to an Fx-8 and give him the 6300 eventually.

Thread Starter
Not sure if I should have put the update in the intel section or not. I didn't want to start a new thread, so moderators, if I need to move something or start a different thread, I will. Thanks for everyones input so far.
