Thats a 360 in this picture. A 420 spans all the way front-to-back, leaves no space for the back fan.

The 30mm rad + 25mm fans limitation is for 420mm (140mm wide) radiators on top of a stock Fractal Define S or R5.
There is no limit on thick 360 (120mm wide) rads, as long as your ram isnt super-high.

You can also easily mod for a thick 420mm like here:

top rad can only be 30 thick according to newegg description. would have to check further into it. 140 wide is the problem. a 120 doesnt have the limitation.
Top – 420, 360, 280, 240, 140 and 120 mm radiators. (A thickness limitation of 55mm for both radiator + fan applies on 420, 280 and 140 mm radiators)

whats your budget for the loop? that will get us a better idea on what you can and cant afford to put in your loop.
I don't really have a budget. I'm piecing together this system to move my current pc into my son's room. Basically, the price just depends on how long I want to wait to build it. I still need to buy the psu, the gpu, the mb and the memory. I have the case, the ssd, the gpu already.

Really I'm more worried about the side to side fit. I saw some picks of rads that aren't wide enough for the mounting screws. I guess I just don't understand the nomenclature of the radiators.

Rads are either
-the SAME width as the fan that goes on it , thus 120mm or 140mm or 180 (+/- 1mm)
-WIDER as the fan that goes on it , for example 125mm or 132mm or 138mm or 144mm or 147mm or 182mm or 202mm

but the mounting holes always MATCH the fan that goes on it

i haven't seen rads which are less as the fan that goes on it smile.gif

I guess what I mean. what size fits on a 360mm rad or a 420mm

a "360" is also a 120.3 meaning 3x 120mm fans .. thus the rad is 120mm wide and 400mm long (360 + 40 for the ports)

a "420" is also a 140.3 meaning 3x 140mm fans .. thus the rad is 140mm wide and 460mm long (420 + 40 for the ports)

You should head over to the Watercooling stickies and do some reading up, otherwise you are going to run into issues because of lack of basic knowledge

Ordered my CPU last night. Now I only need the memory, the PSU and whatever watercooling setup I go with. I'm still up in the air on what to use for my WC setup but I might just go with the EK prebuilt box and add the GPU block.

that's a great idea. the kits keep it simple and they are always expandable and upgradable.

Going to pick up the Water cooling kit next week. Is there anything I need to know that's not obvious?

https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-kit-x360
https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-fc-r9-295x2-acetal-nickel (the configuration tool shows this at $185 and not $215. Not sure why it's more expensive looking up the product in the catalog. Also, do you need the backplate or is that just for support? When I pull up the GPU in the configurator, it doesn't show the backplate.)
