Asus 390X Strix DCIII - there is a more than fruit juice - Page 4

I wanna get two 390x's in q4 15/q1 16, but the power consumption tests freak me out, some show 845w draw for CF 390X.. Can I run them on 850W PSU ?

And your VRM temps?

Mine starts artifacting because of VRM temps, not because of unstable clocks mad.gif

Depends on the resr of your setup. Fans, HDDs, SSDs, mainly which cpu though and what kind of overclock, if any, you have on it. An AMD chip automatically disqualifies you, if you run an i5 at low voltage you could probably do this.

But honestly, 850 is a bit little and I would grab a 1000w PSU for dual 390Xs.

this crazy, I'm not gonna use a 1000w for two 980 class cards.

OK. But they outperform a 980 easily in Crossfire 1440P (or 1080p at that rate). You have to pay for that somehow, the performance isn't free.

Like I said, you could get away with 850w depending on the rest of your setup.

outperform like by 5%, every 1% worth of 80W more draw..... And are you sure they do it so easily....? AFAIR 980 SLI used to kick 290X CF around at 1440p ....

I have laser thermometer but this will be not much accuracy. Or you mean software VRM temps?

Yep, 980 is spanked around easily.

Drivers need to be sorted for Fury still in some games though.

you're posting 4k. and amd is unplayable in any of those with single digit/sub 20fps drops. no question about 980 being worse, it's just IDK what's so fascinating about the other card's performance, none of thses can really play 4K. AMD's 45fps avg comes from 10-60 fps range, it's 30-50fps every 5 seconds. Maybe for a 4K 40" with freesync, sitting in your armchair 2 meters away from the screen with a pad that would be good. I can't imagine playing it with a mouse sitting in front of the screen like we're used to. This would make me sick.

I have a very playable 4k experience with a single overclocked 390.

50-75FPS with very high settings as long as there is no AA used.

Of course those are results from BF4 (Ultra), Crysis 3 (Very High), and Far Cry max settings there also.

Haven't tested anything else but Dirt Rally, and that gets around 75-120 FPS at 4K maxxed out
