Hey guys. I'm looking to get a copy of Windows 7 or 8, whichever is cheapest. Well, it's really the activation key I'm interested in, but a boxed copy is fine!
I need a full retail licence, not OEM.
The pro version would be preferable, but not absolutely necessary. I don't want to buy from some random key store either, just incase it's an MSDN version that gets its activation revoked. Anyone know any reliable stores that have a good price? Something based in the UK would be best so that I don't have to pay any import taxes and so that I know I can use it here.
I recently just picked up a copy of windows 8.1 pro to upgrade to windows 10. I picked up a key from https://www.g2a.com/ for around 20 bucks.. i was hesitant at first but it actually ended up being legit.

Do they provide you an image of the serial number from the box? If not it might be the same as /r/microsoftsoftwareswap and just because the key can get validated won't make it legitimate.
I've actually seen quite a few cheap places since posting this thread. Basically it seems that you will likely end up with an MSDN key when you buy really cheap. Those can end up getting deactivated after a while, even if they work at first.. As for getting proper retail keys, I think it's best to just stick to the stores that are selling sealed boxed copies. Even Ebay can be ok for that if you're careful who you're buying from. I'm watching some on there now so may pick one up soon
The cheapest place to get windows is actually if you have a friend who is doing engineering in University or yourself is an engineering student. We get dreamspark and we get all windows for free. When windows 10 came out yesterday, we all got windows 10. The cool thing is, since you can upgrade 7 and 8 to 10 as well, and since everyone with premium dream spark have all windows for free, then they technically have 3 windows 10 copies.
Going back to your real question, the cheapest way is if you are still a uni student. You can buy windows 7 or 8 for like 60 bucks here in canada (40% the price) by showing your student id.
