Attention Kingston HyperX Predator M.2 Owners who are installing Windows 10: - Page 16

Hey gang.

Well i sat down yesterday after reading another post and trying a few things for myself. I now have windows 10 on my SSD without Firmware update and running 100% stable, spent the evening playing Guild wars 2 with no probs. I am sure its a mix of MS and Kingston, here is what i did.

1: Pulled my SSD out and ran a spare mechanical HDD, installed 8.1 from dvd, let it update to windows 10. Was activated also automatically.

2: Installed Acronis True Image and backed up my HDD partitions to a storage drive.

3:Loaded the dvd i burned with windows 10 on it, used the Media creator tool from MS, Then shutdown and removed my HDD installed my Predator m.2 back in and booted from the DVD, I deleted all partitions using the windows installer and let it create the partitions again. I then QUIT the installer and shutdown.

4: Reconnected my HDD and Booted from that, then used Acronis to restore the backups of my partitions to the SSD. After it was done i shut down again and removed the HDD.

5: When i Booted from the SSD i got an error stating incorrect boot device. I reset my PC went to UEFI bios, went to advanced mode and to the BOOT section, I changed to OtherOS and unloaded boot keys, also CSM disabled. i saved settings and exited bios and when PC posted the windows recovery started, i then selected to Reset Windows option, which resets and then re installs windows by itself (My DVD was ejected)

6: So i sat and watched it reinstall windows in 5 minutes. After it was done i reinstalled boot keys in bios and re enabled correct OS mode and its been perfect.

So now i have Windows 10 on my drive and running stable for 2 days now. I must say its more a software issue than a hardware one. I am no expert and i managed to do it. I wont bother with a Firmware unless i run into issues, which i don't see happening.

Acronis was FREE with my SSD, so this cost me nothing but time. Ohh and Windows IS Activated! biggrin.gif

After running the firmware software in Win7, the drive was updated...and allowed me to install WIN10 Pro.

Link on Tech Support page still isn't up, but you can contact Kingston's tech people and they'll send you the link.

Posted Anvil Storage Utility results for those who care. Drive is plugged directly into M.2 slot on MB.

Well, firmware updated and Windows 10 installed. A happy camper I am.

I don't know if anyone else was having issues but when I used the Kingston SSD Manager, it wouldn't find my m.2 drive that had the OS on it... it only found the Storage RAID HDDs... I shut down the PC and unplugged my HDDs and restarted. The Manager found the m.2 ssd just fine after that...

Make sure you REALLY shut down the PC and then turn it back on to activate the firmware after the download... restarting right away won't activate the firmware

Hey everyone! Recently joined Kingston Technology and look forward to assisting in all your inquiries.  How is the latest firmware update for our Predator?

Oh I'm loving all those builds with our Predator on the previous pages.  Awesome and keep them coming!

Removing the drive makes the LED work as normal again so it's not the headers or anything that simple.

This is the basis of the ticket I have with ASUS as it feels like it's going to be their board causing this to happen...

Would be good to know if others are seeing the same.

Thanks

Hello HyperX-Felinni, i have same problem as SciFiBob and others with Asus boards... I get solid HDD LED when Predator is plugged in M.2 slot. Is it problem of Asus or Kingston? Someone with non Asus board seen this?

Thanks.
