[Build Log] In My Genes

Hey there!

This is my very first build log here on OCN, anywhere in fact. I'm not unfamiliar with building systems, I am unfamiliar with taking my time and concentrating on aesthetics though. All the systems I've built in the past have just been machines that are slapped together because they needed to be up and ready then and there. I'm in the position now where I can finally take my time and do everything exactly the way I want and come up with a result that I'll be proud of.

I've given the build the name "In My Genes" because I've always loved building systems to my bones. Plus I've gone with a Maximus VII Gene so that worked in my favor. I like to think I'm hilarious. Without further ado, here are the specs that I plan to go with, they may change down the road depending on certain factors as well as any advice I may pick up along the way. This build log will be rather picture heavy as well but may be slow going at times so please bare with me.

Main Components:

Case: Parvum Systems S2.0
CPU: 4790k
Mobo: Maximus VII Gene
Memory: 32GB of something undetermined
GPU: Dual GTX 970's
PSU: Corsair AX860i
SSD: Dual 500GB Samsung 850 Series
HDD: 6TB WD Red

All cooling will be EK water blocks and Bitspower Fittings. Styles of the blocks and fittings are undetermined at the moment. All cables will be custom sleeved as well with paracord.

Progress:

1. Motherboard Received

Thanks for checking out the build log!

Received the motherboard yesterday and just love the look of it. I've had the Maximus VII Impact for a previous build before and the Gene lives up to the same standard. I'm a sucker for the classic black and red look that the ROG series has. I'm not sure whether I'm going to carry over that same color scheme for this build or go with more of a black and white monochrome kind of theme. I'll have to fiddle with the two and decide where to go from there.

I picked up a new camera as well over the weekend, looking forward to learning how to use it well and see what I can come up with in the ways of product shots! If anyone has some tips or advice on how to improve my photography then I'm more than willing to take it on board.

The Supreme FX Included Sound Card. I'm not sure if I'll actually be using this at all as I have an AudioEngine DAC that I normally use but I do love how ASUS has included something like this. It worked really well on my Maximus VII Impact.

I've got a few more things on the way at the moment, including CPU and one of the two GPU's which should be here within the week. I'm expecting the case to come in tomorrow which I'll be assembling straight away and taking some shots of as well. I'm not sure how I'll fair with the quality of photographs on that though as my little ghetto lighting studio is not going to be big enough to have a decent black backdrop at all. We'll see how it goes tomorrow! Yet to order all my blocks and the rest of the watercooling gear but that will come along once I can actually decide what finish I want to go for them. I'm torn between going for clean nickel and acetal blocks or clean plexi blocks. Fittings are most definitely be black sparkle though.
