Anno 2205 aims to bring the city-building series to uncharted territory by not only building on Earth, but also on the Moon. The game is still set for its November 3 release, but if you pre-ordered the game, there is some bad news on the way.
The closed beta, which would be playable if you ordered one of the two editions of the game, is no longer available. Obviously, Anno fans took to the game's forums to express their frustration, with many citing the beta as their reason for pre-ordering the game. Without it, players won't be able to get an early look at gameplay between now and November.
Edit: 2 hours and no comments? I expected a wide variety of different responses to this, but mute apathy and a complete lack of surprise weren't any of them. Apparently it doesn't matter how Ubisoft screws up anymore, it's expected and par for the course.
Yea TBH it's ubisoft, if you're surprised by it then you're out of touch with the tech/gaming world. Sucks for those who pre-ordered - stop pre-ordering, especially when gameplay hasn't even been shown yet
I've pre-ordered the game and I wasn't expecting this. Personally I don't do beta's, why buy a game that you'll play before it's complete and burn out on it?
They used it as a selling point for pre-orders but it's not like you can't get a refund for them and it was completely wrong to advertise. The question IMHO is why cancel the beta, it's a much-needed test of the game on multiple systems. I just hope this won't hurt the game upon release. Even though I think that pre-release they can do whatever they want with the title as it's not made public. I guess people can vote with their wallets and just get a refund for it.
Typically PC gaming is getting to the point where it's not worth gameing at all. Everything is either a shoddy mess or a controversial roll-out.
Hmmm, I'm guessing the game is bad and they want to prevent people from knowing it before release, so they cancel the beta and hope to stack up some more pre-orders. If those people knew the beta is crap and the game will likely be crap as well, they won't pre-order. Either way, I'm quoting the first comment on the article:
Quote:
What's that old saying? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me"
Well the game industry has fooled consumers more than 87 times already and it's never going to stop until people stop paying to be test subjects.
I love the concept of the game. Might be tempted to pre-order as i have enjoyed their previous iterations but still thinking about it. November is not too far away for the official release

Sadly you are correct and we have reached the point why discuss anything Ubi does any more, if they can screw it up it will be done. No reason for outrage, we just do not give them money.
Smart move by them, they know there business practices with regards to the game will be hounded by the media and really dig them... well lets be honest, it's not a grave any more, it's a crater.
We are screaming here that you should NOT preorder games especially ubisoft titles. If you pre ordered it despite our warnings i'd say you should not have any right to complain about it. (That's a general message).
If they removed one of the points of buying preorder, so what, if you preordered it you deserve it, better pray that you wont have Anno 1404 graphics.
Yeah, it seems to me that this is probably so that people don't play the game before release and I wouldn't be surprised if they also forgo sending out press copies. It's not really a good sign for how good this game is going to be at launch.

Sounds to me it's so buggy they will do their best to hide it until launch day, then kick it out and go hide under some rock for few months hoping for the best and getting the usual reaction. Yet some sheep still preorder ubisoft and EA games and act all surprised when it's of the usual quality.

We all already know the official release will be the beta. Ubisoft games you need at least 4-5 patches before they become something that should of been the release game.
I used to really like this series but Ubisoft is determined to lock it behind UPlay and DRM, so I have had to give it up. Anno 1602 is on GOG.com now luckily. Now they just need to release Anno 1404 on GOG.com.
EDIT: I have to wonder, what is wrong with the game that they cancelled the demo? Either it is a DRM related issue, or an in-game purchases thing, basically something they know will provoke a negative response that they want to hide until the game releases. This would make me VERY hesitant to buy the game before release.
"We have listened to feedback, and since June last year our policy for all of PC games is that we only require a one-time online activation when you first install the game, and from then you are free to play the game offline."
I haven't played this game in ages since I somehow managed to lose my Anno 2070 physical copy, and whenever I try to play it from Uplay it says I don't have the right code for it, I'm sure it's around somewhere in the house, but I haven't seen it in years, I did contact Ubisoft's support and they were going to help me out with it, however I forgot to get back to them so I have to re-open a new ticket aha.
Pretty much what TopicClocker said, always online DRM, and yet ANOTHER we need to install our terrible steam copy that's poorly implemented and geared toward only one publisher.
I purchased it through steam and I was quite surprised to find it was installing Uplay and not Anno 2070. . . I then had to make a Uplay account and so 7 accounts later
I might be able to play the game. . .
Thanks goodness they dropped the always online DRM, now they just need to ditch Uplay. . .
