I would suggest Dell XPS 13...

So I had the chance to look at both the Dell XPS 13 and the HP Sceptre.

The Dell was small and light. Maybe a tad too small despite the border-less screen. The screen was nice.

The HP size was just right. However, a bit heavier than the Dell. Screen was nice as well. Maybe nicer than the Dell in my opinion. The trackpad is abit too wide in my opinion.

Basically, I'm still having a hard time deciding. Price seems almost the same but the reason I'm having a hard time is both brands have a bad rap. I'm not sure what to get. I don't want to go through the hassle dealing with customer service and technical support when "ish" goes down.

I yet have to look at the ASUS Zenbook.

Curious to know however if Dell plans to make a 14 inch screen on a 13 inch footprint.

Also, should I wait for Skylake? If so, when should we start seeing it in notebooks?

Thanks

Sorry to bump this thread up, but anyone have anymore info on the new LG gram ultrabook? Seems pretty solid. Still browsing for an ultrabook.

And anyone know when Dell, Microsoft, etc. will update their websites? I'm still waiting on the supposed Dell XPS15 which is similar to the new XPS13.

ASUS zenbook would be my top choice because you get a dedicated Geforce GT940.
Dell XPS gets 2nd choice because of the good looks, although you could get an alienware 13 for the same price.

Does it really have to be slim and 13 inch? You'll have more choices at 14 inch.

I can vouch for the quality of Asus, their Ice Cool design keeps the temperature low. You could use it all day and it will feel like its powered off.
The thing I dont like about Asus and HP is that they put so much bloatware on new laptops.
It will take you at least an hour just to get rid of the bloatware.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I still would prefer an ultrabook as I would mostly travel with it. As for size, I guess it doesn't matter. As long as it is an ultrabook.

And I would be purchasing from the Microsoft Store so bloatware would not be an issue.

In case you were wondering why I would vote for the asus zenbook when I myself am using a dell laptop.
Four members of my family each have an Asus X550L (core i5, GT940) and X550D (A8, HD 8670M / Radeon R5)
They game on those laptops everyday and they stay cool even though the ambient temperature here is around 30c.
I'm sure the zen book has the same kind of durability.

So im looking at the Dell XPS 13 and HP Spectre x360.

Anyone know how is hp's quality and durability these days?

Thanks everybody for all your help. It seems that I'm sold on the Dell XPS. Just the size and where to get it is what I have to figure out. I guess that the finish of the XPS just seemed a bit better than the HP Spectre. Also, the XPS was getting rave reviews left and right so I figured I stick with that. I just hope Dell has got its act together in regards to their build quality and support since the last time I dealt with them. I still have to make some calls directly to see whats the best price I can get.

Other brands like Acer and Lenovo didn't appeal to me. Popped in some stores to take a look and they seemed like low quality. I'm pretty sure the Thinkpads are really good but didn't get to see it up close.

Moving on, can anyone recommend and ultrabook accessories like laptop sleeve and laptop corded mouse? Should I also get a laptop cooling pad? Also, how are Microsoft accessories? Are they any good?

A bit OT, but since Dell is mentioned, I was wondering, since going private a few years ago, did that improve or worsen their quality and durability as well as their customer support or no change?

Thanks again.

I suggest getting a wireless mouse, that way you can leave the usb reciever on the laptop forever.
Problem with wired mouse is you have to replug the usb cable everytime you bag the laptop which scratches the usb port.
Logitech M505 is small enough to fit in small bags and has 7 button function. I bought it cause I needed 7 buttons for gaming while maintaining the small size.
A cooling pad is unnecessary if your ambient temperature is 28c or lower.
New laptops run so cool that they feel like they are turned off.

I cant speak for dell durability since my laptop is just a month old.
However I like the software that came with my dell. There was almost no bloatware.
After the first power up, the only icon on the desktop was dell support and recycle bin.
The only bloatware included was McAfee antivirus and free trial of MS Office.
It only needed an 8GB usb stick for the windows recovery tool.
My sister's HP laptop asked for a 32GB usb for its windows recovery. (imagine the bloatware on that)
