The bug was a non issue. I am currently 4.7/4.6 3733 ram and it flies.

Even 12 hour prime fma3 and avx. Even though that's Mega overkill. Stable at 1.37v.

Runs a little hot so wish I had delidded but I cannot be bothered to pull All my stuff apart to do it biggrin.gif

Mid 60s gaming, 71c for encoding and 82c for small ffts and itb.

Well a little hot for skylake was death to some previous gen CPUs.

What's the next-gen series of Skylake going to be? And when?
I went with an i5-6600K to save some $$ figuring I'd be more willing to upgrade later than if I already had an i7 chip.

I've seen a few hinting at an i7-69xx series. Valid?
FYI - my 6600K is currently at 48/48/47/47x (per core) and 1.53v on Win10. Used the Asus auto tune just for giggles and it got all the way up to 49x before it started to wobble. Very impressed with this little chip so far. GeekBench scores went up 20% & 25%. The utility overclocks the DRAM as well. 2133 running at 2800. No issues - seems stable. (Asus Z170-A mobo)

Ideally this would be a first time gaming pc.

That's a lot of vCore 1.53v!!!

That's what the auto OC programs do, take everything unnecessarily high...

You could try lowering the vCore and see if you can maintain stability...

Isnt 1.5v the absolute max you want for skylake, and that's only for short term benching?

lol yeah 1.5v on single stage phase....
83c is temp max as well

people are being stupid with skylake... lol not my money...
but seriously these chips are fragile. they die on water for no reason. and air.. I wouldn't be throwing 1.5v at them for even a quick bench without custom water cooling

Your not alone. I ran the Ai3 Suite's auto-tune thing and it was able to go all the way up to v1.52, getting a 47x multiplier for a 4.747 GHz rig. At load, the temperature registered 60 degrees Celsius... using an EVO 212 tower cooler.

If you have a good motherboard and a good cooler, its feasible. But yeah, I chickened out very quickly after the tuning and went back to a more reasonable overclock of 43x @ 4.3 GHz with stock voltage.

Perhaps if I moved my rig to the basement, where its a few degrees cooler all year round, I'll reconsider. But its super cold down there. tongue.gif

LOL I have the best mobos and coolers.. no its not... if you run 1.5v. 24/7 you are gonna kill the chip. pretty much, just a matter of time..

1.45 is as high as you want to go without a phase

The figures I posted are from the extreme OCer's guides

1.5v is phase changer territory.. I know because I have a custom loop watercooler. a custom phase, and LN2 cooling apparatus

and like I said 83c max.. I doubt many if any cpus that are gonna take 1.5v under those temps. without subambient cooling

OKOK Ill change my statement, with TECs and chillers you might be able to do 1.5v but I wouldn't.

Anyhow these chips are alot more efficient at 0c or less. 1.5v= 4.9-5ghz on water. itd be 5.2-5.3 on phase 0c peaks
