Help with slow computer - Page 4

I tend to think its something failing also. I built a dual core apu with 4gb (2x2gb) for my now mother in law and she's used it for 2 years and still uses it fine (she uses chrome also no problems) I'd say probably a failing part

you likely have a 32 bit OS. open your start menu, right click on computer, and click properties. It will tell you what OS you have installed. 32 bit operating systems have a 4GB ram limit.

What does cpu z report ?
Also go to control panel -system and security-check windows experience and see what it says here under 'system type' 64 or 32 should be what it says

If it is indeed 64bit then I would re-seat both sticks of ram. also might want to try 1 stick at a time to be sure 1 isn't completely dead. DOA happens even with new items.

I just wanted to say that there seems to be a lot of good info in this thread and I look forward to trying some of the suggestions.

I've had a similar situation with my laptop that I never figured out. To make a long story short, one of the ram slots died on my old 64-bit Windows 7 laptop, so it's been running on 2GB for a while now (was never able to confirm if it can support more than 2GB per slot). Anyway, it was constantly hitting the HDD due to high ram usage.

I tried running Ubuntu 32-bit off of a usb stick and it still slow and freezes up frequently when using a browser, etc.. Running my day-trader app (via Wine), ram usage under Ubuntu is about 25% and CPU is consistently 20%-25% on both cores. At this point, it doesn't appear to be a CPU or ram issue, but I'll try HD Tune as well as configuring reserved video memory. It does seem to get very hot, though... I was going to replace the CPU paste and clean out the fans but I couldn't find one last screw/clip to get the case apart mad.gif
