What?

The modders broke the ToS and EULA for Rockstar Social Club (as well as anti-piracy laws) by making a service that allows pirates to play in their own version of Online.

Why should I care? GTA Online is a loading simulator anyway, no matter on whose servers it runs.

"NTA & Co stated numerous times that they discourage piracy and made it impossible to use FiveM with pirated game version" gets from me an easy "no". NTA himself didn't state it, the news quoted it from Ash who provided wrong information (he already apologized for that and he is in contact with qaisjp to clarify the media). I stated it multiple times on Reddit, on IRC and qais did mention it on his blog as well.
"So does it work with pirated copies?" Depends on if they're premodified files or not. Premodified files definitely won't work. But even if they do work didn't I clearly express in my EDIT that using such files result in DRM issues when used with FiveM? We have at least two entries on the issue tracker highlighting such issues.
"If the Social Club integration isn't truly working, or is easily bypassed, then take it out." I gonna ignore this one as I am actually not part of the FiveM development itself, /u/ntauthy is.
"Or does it only work with pirated copies if you're on the dev team?" "Or you were assisted in bypassing it, which would fall directly in line with 'facilitating piracy'." C'mon now, ***. I don't get a premium sausage for especially something like this. Also keep in mind that the other guys (NTA, TheDeadlyDutchi, qaisjp) all have legit copies of the game. NTA even has multiple for cases like that.

But, Rockstar already said we was allowed to mod and it's not touching the online at all, it's redirecting it to a different system entirely. Rockstars main income is from Expansions and selling the game. Shark Passes are not the main incomes and if that's how rockstar wants there future games to be funded well... do we really want to support rockstar?

All this does is hurt rockstar more. Pirates won't be affected by this and can still create there own servers.(edit: seen mentioned that is not the case, but still has the potential) Rockstar would be clever enough to support such endeavours and allow people to do such things while also easing the burden on themselves with server hosting and costs. thus maximising there profits even further.

It's just a knee jerk reaction to turn(well, already is) GTA into a mobile passed monetised platform.

Rockstar isn't selling DLC/Expansions.

The expansions are free and are mostly funded by people who buy shark cards because they either don't have the time to earn money or don't want to earn money by playing the game.
