best 2.1 speaker for usd 200-300 - Page 7

Don't buy a DAC at this pricepoint. You are definitely better off buying two quality bookshelf speakers (powered) vs two mediocre satellites and a sub. I find the Corsair SP2500 quite disappointing.

I'd suggest going with something like the Yamaha HS5, Presonus Eris 5, Yorkville YSM5. These are powered studio monitors. Just run a TRS 1/8" to dual mono TRS 1/4" to the speakers. You can get that cable for $10 on Amazon.

A DAC can usually increase sound quality, but its a pretty small improvement. You would buy a DAC if you are unhappy with the sound coming directly out of your motherboard. If there was a humming, buzzing, or ringing coming from your motherboard then using a DAC can get rid of that. I would say that a DAC should be the absolute last thing you buy, and even then, you don't really need one at all.

oh nice what about a soundcard would that be more important than a DAC ? or do they do the absolute same thing ?

In comparison JBL LSR305 as good as Yamaha HS5, Presonus Eris 5, Yorkville YSM5 u recommended ? or Yamaha HS5, Presonus Eris 5, Yorkville YSM5 are actually better in terms of sound quality ?

The JBL and Yorkville would be at the top of the list in terms of fidelity.

I found my SP2500s to be anything but disappointing. Besides sounding very good, I like how little room they take up (other than the rather large sub case, which still fits easily in the smallest desk kneehole).

They do pretty much the same thing. Whether either would give you an improvement depends on how good your onboard sound is. I have a P9X79 WS MOBO that has pretty good onboard sound but I did get a worthwhile improvement when I installed my Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card. I prefer a sound card over a DAC since I have nowhere to place a DAC and I do not like having components hanging from a cable. However, not all computers will have enough PCI-e slots or, if a slot is available, enough lanes available for an internal card.

Onboard sound has been steadily improving so that only a handful of sound cards are now able to do better. Quite possibly, a few newer MOBOs have good enough sound to negate any benefit from a sound card.

Planning on buying the Asus maximus hero z170. Would the Msi Gaming m7 on board sound be better than asus ?
in terms of price vs performance. if soundcard and a DAC is the same price. which perform better? or equally as good . considering both is the same price range.

Just to throw out another option I went with.

JBL Loft 40 Bookshelf Speakers $60
Lepai Amp $25
Dayton Sub1200 $130

I believe you could hook these up. I love my Loft 40 speakers so far, just need to buy that subwoofer to get the full effect. I'm using a Receiver though for my home theatre setup.

You could use the extra money for a better sub such as the BIC America F12 $200ish

I have no idea and I doubt anyone else really would, although I'm sure there will be plenty of opinions. The only way you would know for sure would be to listen for yourself, an option that isn't always available. Keep in mind that everyone has different tastes and what one person may love, another may detest.

That's really interesting because pretty much everyone does know the answer to that question. A USB DAC will always sound better than a soundcard at any given pricepoint for the simple fact that the soundcard is INSIDE the PC where it receives a high amount of interference and noise from other components.

I'd like to see a soundcard, at any price point, that can compete with the fidelity of an Audioquest Dragonfly 1.2 ($150 USD).

Horse feathers! Have you ever heard of shielding? My Asus Xonar Essence STX, which is well shielded, is dead silent when I have everything cranked and I'm not actually playing anything through it. There is NO interference or noise being picked up.
