Arizona Is THE WORST For Computers. - Page 2

Guess it all depends on the environment & conditions... or otherwise put:
How much milage do you get out of a paper filter before you have to change it? smile.gif
I wouldn't have wanted to have to pull over on the road Basrah to change the airfilter, in the midst of operations, so to speak.
Then again, stacking 5 spares under the passengers seat is always an option smile.gif

Just saying that they have their place... and in "dusty" places they might make more sense as paper....

Unless you're driving a Toyota Hi-Lux... THAT thing does anywhere in all circumstances and is indestructible... wouldn't surprise me if it survives an encounter with a Warthog better as a BTR would smile.gif

I would have to say, about the dust situation... it probably has something to do with the state you're in but also the place you live in. Change out that furnace filter for a better one and get your ducks cleaned. I'm in ATL for another week and my place is TERRIBLY dusty. If you want to stay on top of things you need to dust every other day here...

The idea is to change the air filter before you are forced to pull over on the road and do so. Even if one is forced to pull over and change the filter, it would still be much faster than having to clean an oil bath filter. You also wouldn't have to carry oil, solvent, a pan to clean it in, and a container for the waste solvent and oil. Spare paper filters would take up a lot less room. You can also shake a lot of dust off between changes (compressed air is a bad idea because it can leave holes in the paper).

I don't see how that one outfit can claim less maintenance downtime when it only takes five minutes or less to change out a paper air filter. I can change out the air filter in my F150 in a minute or less and not break a nail. Pop the hood, pop two spring clips, pull out the old filter and shove in the new one, snap the spring clips, then drop the hood.

A deuce and a half is just a 2.5 ton truck., a Tonka Toy compared to a 6 ton 6x.
lol. I'll take your word for it, but offhand I don't remember any of my cars having an oil bath filter...and I ain't no spring chicken, as the saying goes. smile.gif

Ah good old deuce and a half. I remember night driving training in the El Paso area desert and bouncing around all night watching those little keyhole lights.
Also drove one on the job back in the early '80's, was a real pain to get parts for, especially injector pumps.

Here in North Florida we certainly have our share of dust, because my 5 acres is basically on a sand hill.

Came in expecting to see a dead scorpion (or insert other common Arizona insect here) inside the case, left a little disappointed.
I've been lucky. In the 55 years I've lived in AZ, I've seen only one scorpion in a house I was living in. I darned near stepped on the little bugger (it merely appeared to be big enough to throw a saddle on and ride) with my bare foot. It died quickly once I grabbed a boot and none too gently tapped it on the shoulder.

Btw, scorpions aren't insects. They only wish they were that nice.

Bro!

Look on the positive side!

Arizona is the BEST state for evaporation cooling!

Build your self an evaporative water cooler, and water cool your PC.

No more dust, and your liquid will stay at 16C for ever.

Check out my builds, I have actual data and experiments in my build logs.

You would love it, and you would even be able to overclock.

If you want to really clean the dust out, do what I do. Clean EVERYTHING that contacts with air like you would with washing dishes, or washing a bike/car if its large (like your case). The trick is air-drying.

I have 2 seasonic X1250 power supplies. They're amazing build quality, but dust irks me. So I pulled my existing one out and put in the backup, and literally sprayed hot water onto the power supply to wash away the dust (Disassembled of course). Some soapy water later and a rinse, it goes in the oven at 200-225F (enough to evaporate or boil away the water without hurting the components) for a couple hours. Plugged it back in + paperclip so it turns on and tested it, works just fine. I've done the same for fans, air/liquid cooling blocks, GPU's, liquid cooling radiators, motherboards, you name it. I haven't lost a part yet and they come out looking brand new after.

The only thing I probably WOULDNT wash like that is probably a computer monitor or mechanical hard drive tongue.gif

Try running subzero when it's 90 degrees and 88% humidity.
No,Arizona is NOT the worst for computers.
