Is anybody still playing Crysis wars ?

Thread Starter
It was the best online FPS I ever played. I miss those full 32 players team death matches and vehicle maps. Since game-spy servers went down I was wondering if there still is an active community playing the original maps.

I think the multiplayer died when Gamespy died. Might have to look around to see if there are any alternatives like modded dedicated servers or LAN or something.
I wish. Like brootalperry said the Gamespy shutdown was the last nail in its coffin. It already had very few players before that. But Power Struggle in Crysis and Crysis Wars is the best game mode ever I think (for a shooter that is), and that made for the most strategic PvP shooter alongside the Natural Selection games. Loved it.

I was too good at that game though, only 3 or 4 other players were able to be competitive with me. That didn't matter too much though since I mostly played Power Struggle which is goal oriented and team oriented, so one really good player on a team with 15 other confused and uncooperative players wasn't enough to win. These days I'd probably be terrible since I don't play shooters much anymore, but my knowledge of the maps would come in handy.

People would be surprised to learn that Crysis Wars shipped with nearly 20 maps and had more added for free. These days you get like 8 maps, and have to pay $15 for 4 more.

You can still connect to servers through direct connection, using the server's IP address and the console command connect if I recall correctly. I still have all of my server files in fact, and can launch the server. It's a heavily modded server, which I ran for years. If you can find 30 eager players with a head on their shoulders that would be great. biggrin.gif

It's a shame that Natural Selection 2 is quite dead too. These two and their predecessors are on a completely different level than all others when it comes to teamwork and strategy requirement.

You know, once Tripwire Interactive (developers of Red Orchestra/Rising Storm) releases a modern warfare PvP shooter (which is inevitable), I will make a Power Struggle mod for it, and then we can all rejoice! I won't make nanosuit mods or anything since I only really cared about Power Struggle in Crysis multiplayer.

i had fun with it, but it didn't feel too polished or balanced so i didn't try to play it seriously like et or ns or quake

i think i stopped playing crysis MP because of hackers though
i'd be up for finding some casual deathmatch if it was still played

How was it unbalanced? The only unbalanced aspects were a few maps; namely Mesa, Beach, and Shore, because one HQ was more vulnerable to TAC tanks and Singularity tanks than the other.

this was more than 7 years ago so i don't remember specifics. i think the mode i played the most was power struggle in crysis 1

all i recall is that some other FPS games felt really intricately designed where you could really see how everything fit together, what enemies were doing, how you needed to respond, and how your play helped or hurt your team's success
crysis was always more casual, at least the way i played it. people randomly joined/left in the middle of matches. there wasn't a strong sense of team v team working together to accomplish objectives

maybe it has more to do with scale. 6v6 is different from 15v15
i never tried playing crysis in a competitive setting where my whole team was on voicecomms, so maybe i never gave it a truly fair shot
