[BBC News] July was Earth's hottest month on record, NOAA says - Page 53

The climate scientists have been warning about global warming and sea level rise for decades, they keep having to revise the model. I understand that's part of science, but they overstated their confidence back then and probably now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_level_rise

Again just because people agree on something doesn't mean they agree on the degree/amount. With sea level you have one (possibly more) group claiming 5 meters of rise between 2000 and 2100 while others project 2 meters or less over the same period.

The amount of science fear and trust in business entities who have everything to gain from preventing any action or even acceptance of AGW is amazing. What's really interesting is that the few peer reviewed papers against AGW come from places like Russia which rely heavily on their oil and gas economy. This is probably why they were cheating the system in the fox news link I already discussed.

Summer's been awful here in Norway. 80% reign throughout the entire thing, artificially low temperatures in general. Very unusual and obviously caused by something. Winters are terribly short at the point where there's nearly no snow. I could ski for maybe a total of 2-3 weeks in the timespan of 4 months. It gets worse every year. Soon I won't be able to ski at all. Before I could ski all winter. 3/4 of the snow is gone in my area.

There hasn't been a cooling trend of significance since the "little ice age" and if we scaled out from what I recall we should be heading towards a cooling trend right now but instead are seeing the opposite.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleoclimatology#/media/File:All_palaeotemps.png

If you were referring to the same misinterpreted headline as another user way earlier in this thread did I'll dig up my posts in response. My favorite was the anti-AGW chain email in which someone had photoshopped the cover of TIME.

Again. Due to the multivariate/stochastic (IIUC) nature of the systems they'll have only probabilities to offer of what the future will be. This is no different than anyone being unable to correctly state 100% of the time what their next dice roll will be.

This graph should be comforting to some worried about AGW. It was much warmer 8 to 6 thousand yr. ago. And we don't really want another mini-iceage, or worse. We have billions living here now that weren't back then. this would be epic tragedy. Mass starvation and such.
Maybe the added co2 will stave off a tragic cold snap. Could be an "accident" that just happened to work out, kinda like life. wink.gif

UN climate change body suffers mammoth European carbon fraud
Bottom line: Follow the money, and trust but verify. Otherwise, you will be scammed.

Great link Knucklehead, current news, you could have started another thread. laugher.gif
Anyway big rep+ for the news, funny I looked all over the web for this, and outside of Europe everything links back to Fox, must not be real news I guess. biggrin.gif
Not a Fox lover by the way, I get my BS, I mean news from many sources.

This of course is nothing new when I was a kid we had some brutal winters, and it was the on coming iceage sky is falling thing whatever. Sorta not so funny any more.

Edit: more anecdotal, the winters we have had lately have been like the cold ones of the 70s

Oh yea, the end is near, drink more beer. smil3dbd4e4c2e742.gif

The science may be sound but leave it to the media and special interests to start exaggerating and click-baiting the heck out of things. I don't think I've seen a single peer-reviewed paper come out with the doomsday claims the media and egotists like Al Gore do.

And hell, we have no "absolute proof" about quantum physics, the Higgs Boson/Particle is fairly certain to have been "observed" but it's still "tentative" the last I read. There's heavy evidence that they've proved it's existence but still not absolute. Also, the media loved to exaggerate and claim it as the "God particle" even though the scientists hated them doing that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_boson

All in all, I think the whole AGW situation is a strong indication of science illiteracy, logic/reason failure, media sensationalism, fear of status quo changing, and plain fear of uncertainty. Kind of reminds me of how people feared the things Nikola Tesla did with wireless electricity.

What I see here is concrete reasons to game the AWG hysteria for greed, power, and control. And this can definitely taint results.

And Tesla was so far ahead of his time you could make a case for time travel. smile.gif

? How is the fraud perpetrated by Russia and Ukraine(under the Russian puppet at that time), both countries with intense reasons to ignore the consequences of AGW, a signal of anything wrong with the science? Again, in simple terms the amount of money that the gas, oil, and mining industries of the world have at their disposal is enough to buy votes in governments and yet they can't seem to buy scientists even when they paid for them (like the Koch funded study I linked earlier in this thread). The issue isn't the science but the economic fights now between industries and countries. If I were in a developing or still growing country I'd try to avoid admitting AGW existed because it isn't fair that the EU and US got to develop unrestrained because they didn't know about the consequences of their actions. If I was Russia and Ukraine (the ones gaming the system in the Faux News source) I'd deny AGW existed and I'd manipulate things because my economy is heavily reliant on things that contribute to AGW. Why didn't anyone stop Russia from mucking around in Ukraine? Because the EU is afraid of being cold in the winter without Russia's oil and gas. But none of that changes the fact that AGW is happening.

If sea level rise and people on islands having to think about moving don't do it for you there's an example here in the US.

With our current activities we have reversed the trend like your one graph points out and broken the cycle. Right now we should actually be heading back towards a glacial period by most trend analysis. But nope, we've probably made it so that we won't have to worry about that for another 50k yrs. So, yay?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_and_icehouse_Earth#Modern_conditions

Meanwhile you can see the effects of AGW at places like Glacier National Park.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_glaciers_in_Glacier_National_Park_(U.S.)
http://nrmsc.usgs.gov/research/glacier_retreat.htm

I again keep finding nothing but support for AGW but I do now appreciate the fact that people get uneasy about the variations from one study to another. Also, nobody likes being told they'll have to deal with an externality in life.

PS: The temperature/AGW side isn't the only issue of CO2 we have to worry about. That whole acidification of the ocean thing actually seems like something that will be more tangible sooner yet doesn't seem to get as much attention. Maybe people don't eat fish as often?

Yup, hotter than last year and the year before that and before that and long before that. Because "old west" stories about heat were just stories, it was cooler then.

You ever hear of an "urban heat island"? Probably, supposedly they don't exist - right?

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/09/09/%E2%99%AB-i-left-my-uhi-in-sannn-frannncisco-%E2%99%AA/ twenty degrees hotter in town

So, we - the people who think the warmist scientists are full of Bull - aren't in denial of facts, we deny that the scientists are USING facts.

So that thermometer in town and one 100 miles away, when averaged, result in a 10 degree rise across the entire area.

WHY this thread even exists on OC.net is beyond comprehension.

The "scientists" keep trying to prove that they can get data from patterns inside the margin of error and they're just erronious.
