Would 16GBs RDIMM work to get started? Big thing I need to start doing soon is nightly or weekly backups right now I have NOTHING. mad.gif I'm considering 2 4TB drives for raid not sure on which raid yet since this is my first go around with it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OP2PKHW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Those are the drives or would I be better off with 4 2TB drives?

I am saving the SATA controller for later unless it is needed right away.

Is there another place I should be shopping from or should I bee looking to get each thing as cheap as I can?

Sorry if a lot of this should be straight forward I'm a stay at home dad for a 2 year old and a 5 year old, my GB mobo for my desktop died 2 days ago and I'm an online student. (yeah I know I could be learning this all myself and just get the certs.)

16GB would work for getting started. It all depends on how much RAM you want/need dedicated to each VM. Go with (2) 8GB sticks so you can expand to two more later if needed. It will save money in the long run.

For the hard drives, again it is all up to personal preference for what type RAID you want to run (hardware raid or software raid), and how much storage you need and what you want to expand to in the future. I would start with the largest drives you can afford in your budget. If you have just two drives though, you'll want to mirror them for redundancy in case one fails. Or, you could use a software RAID or duplication type service within one of the VM's to mirror only the files you want to have redundancy on. This can be done with Stablebit Drivepool, Windows Storage Spaces, etc.

For the best prices on hardware, I usually stick with Amazon, Newegg, Microcenter, Fry's, and always check Hot Deals in the various online forums. You can check out Pricewatch and Slickdeals.
