Yup, the tracking systems are completely different. From what I've seen the Vive is far more accurate as far as tracking is concerned, and you get to walk around using it. Although i don't think i'd enjoy walking around, who knows? Maybe there'll be something really cool that comes from it.

The Oculus system reminds me of Kinects tracking, it might perform okay in a controlled environment, but i think it will start to show a lot of inconsitency in peoples houses.

All of this is from what I've seen/heard, not facts just opinions wink.gif

But i'd put my money on the Vive being superior in every aspect, for one it's being built by HTC, not exactly amateur hour, and they're partnered with Valve, i think that speaks for itself.

It's not too bad, but limited range. For seated stuff it's fine, basically as long as your butt stays on the chair you should be OK for the majority of the time. It can't do full turns though, as soon as you go much above 90° to the left and right of centre you loose tracking - the CV1 will solve that with tracking points on the rear of the headset.

Regardless, I do think that the Vive will be better - two tracking stations are going to allow for greater accuracy and fewer dead spots compared to a single camera.

Yeah. They had 2 of their new cameras mounted on the wall of the demo room facing toward the person; 1 on the left and 1 on the right. I believe they stated there was a reason they didn't mount 1 in front and 1 behin to help with occlusion, but I don't remember the exact reason off the top of my head.
