[Official] BenQ XL2730Z Owner's Club - Page 18

Have been searching through the internet in hopes of finding an answer or someone with the same problem with me. =(

I just got the BENQ XL2730Z, everything was fine until i changed from 60HZ to 144HZ. (which is the whole point of getting this monitor right?)

At 144hz, I noticed that 1/3 of the whole screen to the right has the text a little 'squashed'/'blurred'. However the left half of the screen has clear sharp text. The middle part of the screen sometimes has clear text and sometimes has that 'squashed' and 'blurred' text. For example: The i will become an l, letters will seem cut off at the top and bottom, so f looks like an i and things like that..

The 'squashed' and 'blurred' text doesnt REALLY affect me, but it bothers me that this only affects PART of the screen. I'd rather it be blurry/fuzzy throughout than having half sharp and half fuzzy.

120HZ still sees slight blurriness/fuzziness in the text but all text are sharp 100HZ and below.

Not sure if this is normal, but I can't find anyone else with the same problem, I thought of getting a 1:1 exchange, but the text IS fine at lower HZ, so is it just me? (It's really inconvenient for me to bring it back to the shop, and benQ customer support doesn't want to pick the damn phone)

SOME TEST NOTE:

- Using Sapphire R9 390 connected via DP port ( have already tried to use all DP port)
- Fuzziness/Blurriness becomes WORSE after connecting a 1080p 60HZ monitor VIA HDMI. (I'm suspecting maybe a MOBO/PSU problem? I'm using a old PCIE2.0 supporting MOBO and a CX600M PSU)
- Disconnecting the second screen DOES seem to improve fuzz/blur(need to do more test on this, at work now)
- FREESYNC suddenly NOT SUPPORTED, after countless reboots trying to play around with the settings/resolution/refresh rate to fix the text blur/fuzz(HOW DO I FIX THIS, have tried on/off blur reduction, reinstalling driver but still not supported)

Will be going back to do more test( only got 1-2 hours on weekdays to play around), need to get my freesync back though -.-.
I seek your advice and opinions and thank you kind souls in advance for your assistance!

EDIT:
After more research, could it be a strobe artifacts causing the text to blur/fuzz?

If doing a factory reset doesn't fix it, RMA the monitor. That's a defect. The ROG Swift PG278Q has had similar issues (the panels are very similar).

Hi there,

2 days ago I received my BenQ XL2730Z. I was initially extremely happy with it, though now I have a strange problem:

At completely random intervals, the screen with display a completely black image for 1-2 seconds. It then continues where it left off. This happens mostly in games, though I've seen it happen on the desktop with no games running also. It can happen every few minutes, or every few hours, or go a whole day working perfectly, making this very hard to troubleshoot.

I'm connected using DP @ 144Hz, using the DP cable that came with the monitor.
I'm using a MSI 390X (HDMI ports worked perfectly for many months with my old monitor)

I'm on the latest beta crimson driver.

Any help would be appreciated, many thanks smile.gif

Is your gpu overclocked? I have the exact same issue when I overclock my 290s, even just a little bit. I contacted Benq and was told that the problem is with my gpus not being able to handle the frame rate, even though they worked perfectly before I got the monitor. Considering how old and used my gpus are (got them used a few years ago from someone who mined with them) I wouldn't be surprised if it is a gpu problem. Everything works perfectly on stock clocks though, so I'm not upset, I'll just upgrade my gpus in a few months anyways.

Got quick question guys, I have a buddy that got one of these this week and he called me asking about a problem. He has everything set up on an HD 7970 and the monitor has a very yellowish tint to it no matter what the settings. Has anyone seen something like this? I've seen Dell screens with this problem but not a BenQ.

Hi Guys, quick update with regards to the blurry text.

Contacted benq via email, they are sending over one monitor for me to test, and if the blur/fuzz is still there, they will lend me their monitor and take back mine to repair.

So everything is good, except that now the blur/fuzz is gone.

There are 3 different settings i used:

1) Blur Reduction ON - blur/fuzz minimum
2) Blur Reduction OFF , NO FREE SYNC - blur/fuzz maximum with slight flicker
3) Blur Reduction ON - blur/fuzz medium with a lot of flicker

This was the case for the last 4 days, but last night it went away after an hour or so of use.

Getting my friend to help me test the new monitor as i'll be at work, hope that either the screen is totally fine, or the fuzz/blur gets back so we can exchange it. Meh.
Anyone else with similar text problem with the above settings? Did yours go away over time too?

Hey, thanks for the reply.

It's not overclocked, it's at it's factory clocks (1080Mhz on the core, MSI 390X).

I've tested the monitor a few more days, the black screen issue is extremely random, I've gone a day without having it, only to have it occur 2-3 times in a minute on the desktop when no games are running etc.

My monitor was bought as brand new stock from OCUK last week. The box had clearly been opened before as the original tape had been cut. It had new BenQ tape over the old tape. The monitor was a feb 2015 build date. I'm wondering if I received a refurbished screen? Has anyone received one with a newer build date than Feb 2015?

I'm currently testing the monitor via HDMI (limits me to 60z) just to see if the black screen issue happens via HDMI. My previous monitor ran HDMI faultlessly on the same PC, so at least I can narrow it down to the monitor if this issue still occurs.

I also wanted to mention I was using the included Amphenol DP E326508 cable that came in the box with this monitor. Is this a bad quality cable?

If your black screens are random then it probably isnt a gpu problem. Mine would only occur when I was doing something graphically intensive (gaming) and would occur more frequently if the gpus were under heavier load or a higher overclock.

I'm using the cable that came with the monitor and I just saw your post on oc uk about the cable only supporting 120hz so I decided to turn my refresh rate down and see what happens. At 120hz and 100hz, the monitor still black screen when gaming but at 60hz I didnt experience any black screens at all.I think I'm going to buy a new cable to see if that fixes anything, but I'm not sure if it will.

Get this cable. It's VESA certified and VESA owns displayport.org.
