It's the FG2421 as I thought. That's a 1080p 120 Hz MVA monitor that peaks at over 40 ms response time in black to darker grey transitions, and has a few more ms of input lag with blur reduction enabled so it's a pick your poison scenario. Those issues certainly don't apply to the FS2735.

Yep thats the FG2421, every time i see that still being used for csgo tournaments i ***** so hard. I wonder if the VG248QEs that i also occasionally see if they're using lightboost or just 144hz. Surely the BenQs they'll be using the built in blur reduction.

Asus VG248QE has 1 frame of added input lag for Lightboost strobing, equal to the refresh rate persistence (at 120hz refresh rate this is equal to 8.3 ms of extra latency-- 1000 divided by 120 /ms). That's in ADDITION to the 8.3ms persistence of input lag you already get for 120hz vsync on. So that's 16.7ms for Lightboost 120hz (if vsync is enabled).

Benq blur reduction has the same 1 frame of added input lag latency if STROBE PHASE 000 is used as the strobe happens during the *NEXT* frame (rather obvious that this is 1 frame of added latency).

If strobe phase 100 is used, there is NO added latency; it's identical to not using blur reduction, but there's a lot more strobe crosstalk at the bottom of the screen (crosstalk=pixel colors from the next rendered frame being mixed with pixel colors from the current frame). On the XL2730Z, this is always strobe phase 100 (Strobe phase is called "Area" in the XL2730Z), as the XL2730Z can not respond to VT tweaks to reduce crosstalk.

For previous Z series Benq blur reduction monitors that can use "Vertical total tweaks", if a VT tweak is active, the maximum strobe phase cutoff is lowered (120hz=strobe phase 049 is the limit, 100hz=strobe phase 059, 85hz=strobe phase 070). Input lag is still reduced by 1 frame (equal to MBR=off) at the maximum strobe phase or a few points below it. If a VT tweak is not active it's still strobe phase 100.

Been reading about this. Yea response time should be a tiny fraction of the total frame duration to avoid normal transition blur.
Strobed monitors need to be even quicker since the frame is only "on" or "strobed" for a couple milliseconds.
If pixels are not fully transitioned before the strobe, you see past and present frames in transition causing ghosting or "crosstalk".

If strobe phase is always 100, what does the adjustable "area" setting do on the XL2730z?

Area is strobe phase.
I think you misunderstood me a bit.
I call it Strobe phase because that was the previous name of it. On the XL2430T, it's called Area, but the service menu option to change it is still called "strobe phase." The service menu options were removed on the XL2730Z.

I said "if the strobe phase is always 100, there will be no added input lag from enabling blur reduction". But the crosstalk will be atrocious.
I'm pretty sure I know how the XL2730''s crosstalk works by examining previous pictures of others testuFO images, and I can recreate the same resolution on mine.

At area 100, crosstalk covers the entire bottom half of the screen, am I correct?

Can't say as I haven't decided on this or the xl2730z. I'm going to have to read your posts on Blurbusters again to see if I wanna mess with all these tweaks. I should have never gave away my P1130's last year.
The crosstalk you're referring to, is there a still image or something I can see to understand what I should be looking for? I am using AMA High, Blur Reduction ON and Area 100 settings with brightness and colors corrected to compensate for Blur Reduction but I can't for the life of me perceive this crosstalk.

Make sure you have hardware acceleration enabled and are using google chrome and you have Aero enabled.

Then make sure this test is run full screen mode (F11).

http://www.testufo.com/#test=photo&photo=alien-invasion.png&pps=960&pursuit=0&height=-1

Crosstalk will be the boundaries of the next (or previous) frame blurred into the current frame. On the vertical red line, the red line will turn black, as two different frames of lines "swap" positions or are merged together with incomplete color transitions. The UFO's will show a very nasty double image that will have a lot of black to it. This is not the same as overdrive ghosting/RTA artifacts.

Seems a bit ridiculous if I have to have aero and hardware acceleration enabled to make it happen but I will try it tonight anyways. With respect to gaming though, how would I understand if I am getting crosstalk or not?
