and yes its quite unaffordable and not worth it indeed, theres really no point in getting a 10Gbps as of this time, a 1Gbps is much more acceptable as it's easily accessible to consumer equipment.
i mean, sure you'd have 10Gbps of internet bandwidth, but do you have a 10Gbps router and networking cards to fully utilize it?

at most it'd only be used by the upper level of users with the proper equipments, but it'd still fall short in efficiency.
as for the reason, its been mentioned that download speed is limited by the speed on the other end, which doubtfully also has a 10Gbps or faster connection.

Not to mention the median HOUSEHOLD income is $34,672 a year, the average home value is $127,017. The crime rate is almost twice that of the US, unemployment is a full point higher than the average NC town, and nearly 2 points higher than the US average. Manufacturing (textile) and retail trade are the most common jobs (not very 10Gbps internet needed).

Basically, this is a PR stunt by the Salisbury, NC chamber of commerce to try to attract people to it. Salisbury is nothing much really. I know, I went to college about 20 miles away to the SE, and my first real job in IT out of college was 25 miles west. They basically roll up the sidewalks at 9pm, and last time I was there, it was a "dry county", meaning it is illegal to sell alcohol there.
It will definitely attract people to it. It isn't much now, but it probably won't stay that way if other areas don't follow suit.

That's nasty. I get 2 Mbit down, and I'm not sure what my upload speed is (probably 320 or somehting like that) for R200 excluding line rental. Also, my soft cap is 70 GB or something like that.

50Mbps symmetrical for $45 per month is an "incredible deal"?

With Verizon FIOS you can get 50mbps symmetrical internet that's just $39.99 per month. For $49.99 per month you can bump that up to 100Mbps symmetrical.

$80+ for 22/5 here.

Charter is currently the fastest in this state and can beat our current download speed by 3x but can't match our upload speed and they charge half as much as our current ISP. Maybe it would be best if I moved out of this crummy state.
