i was under the impression that the d5 is a very quiet pump but my pump is really not quiet at all... between 30 and 50% pwm speed i hear a deep whining/humming sound and above 50% it turns into a high pitched whining sound. so no matter at what speed i set it i always hear it. is this normal or do i just have a faulty pump?

I have the XRES 100 (110) REVO. Do you have the pump res assembly mounted to an EK UNI mount like in this photo OR did you use the included template and drill four holes and mount directly to your chassis?

Interesting, I'm getting ready this week to construct a test loop for the sole purpose of evaluating noise with my XRES REVO and my REVO pump plexi top mounted with and without Sorbothane feet, just to see how effective the EK circular rubber damper (dumper) is on its own.

To partially answer your question, yes the D5 is an extremely quiet pump, between 25 and 50% PWR, I have mine running inaudible at 22inches sitting distance, but they do need some noise absorption material to reach that level. I will find out just how much the dumper contributes to noise absorption in the 25 to 50% power range this week.

I'll let you know my findings, probably Wednesday. thumb.gif

yes i have it mounted to a EK UNI mount like you. the UNI mount is mounted onto a corsair SP120 Quiet edition at the bottom of my fractal define r5. yeah at 25% i cant hear mine but i wanted to have it run a little faster than that.
at 50% my pump noise turns from a deep whine to a high whine so its at that point where it hits a frequency i cant really hear but there is always a background noise there.
my case is currently sitting like 60cm next to my right ear on my desk because i wanted to keep an eye on leaks and stuff so noise will be a little less of a problem once i put my case under my desk.

OK gotcha, I'm positioning my build on top of my desk 22 and 28 inches from my ears (respectively) tongue.gif, and when talking noise its usually that low frequency hum or rumble that generates from pumps and fans and transmits through the chassis hard metal lattice or substrate. I'm testing single fans mounted directly to the case, two banks of four 120mm fans in P-P rad mounted, a single bank of two 140mm fans rad mounted, and a D5 with two various EK mounts this at normal sitting distance, with side and front case panels removed.

I've got Nexus silicon grommets, silicon rad gaskets from Steiger Dynamics, foam rad gaskets from XSPC, Velcro sheets as a last resort, and Sorbothane hemispheres at 2.5inch, 1inch, 3/4inch, 1/2inch and 30 and 50 durometer densities.

With an inaudible build this is the critical week, each component part is mounted and tested separately at various rotational speeds.

This 120mmx38mm Sanyo fan (red arrow in the pic) just failed using four Nexus silicon fan grommets, it began to rumble at 35% power 625rpms, but then I thought it might, at 330grams total mass, it's a very heavy fan, more weight more rotational energy produced at every rpm. To get an idea, most fans developed for silent use weigh in at around 140grams.

So now I have to add a Steiger 120x120 silicon fan gasket and modify it a bit with a blade to accommodate silicon grommets and not the hard screws it was designed to work with (which makes zero sense to me).

http://www.performance-pcs.com/radiator-accessories/hot-steiger-dynamics-fan-silencer-shroud-decoupling-gasket-120-x-120-mm.html

The office, now impromptu workshop is a complete disaster at the moment, so worth it for the many days of inaudible computing on the way.

Pardon the mess. biggrin.gif

The 10% reading on the D5 without the PWM connector plugged is about right. I know it's a pain for the bleeding process. mad.gif

For your sound at 60% or 50%, do you think you can make a video of it?

yeah i will make a video once i have reassembled my loop, had to take it apart to readjust my cpu block

Vibrations, vibrations and vibrations... but pump is very quiet itself.

Nice build, looks very clean

Yes it is a shame that the XRes D5 Revo mount transfers the vibrations this badly, i have the same issue in my system. I'm going to try using some 120mm fans silicon rings as an isolator to try to combat the noise of the vibrations, guess i'll just have to see if it changes anything, i'm redoing my water loop soon were i'm going to implement it into my loop.

Btw. i find that 60%, 74% and 100% is the speeds to run the pump at, most in between just makes a high pitched vibration sound, but i pretty much only run my D5 pump at 74%.
The best spot is 37,5% PWM what is ~1530 rpm and like this my PC is dead silent from 1 meter. Lower and higher settings makes vibration noise for me.

@DyndaS; do you have some more photos somewhere? Would love to share this build over our social media smile.gif

How would you recommend mounting these in a Phanteks Enthoo Primo?
This case has a reservoir mounting option on the backside of the case, but inexplicably all of the mounting holes seem to be 71.5mm.
Pretty much all of the reservoirs and pump/res combo's seem to be using 65mm as a standard. I'm pretty sure this one uses 65mm mounting holes as well, I'd double-check in the store but it seems to be down for maintenance atm.

Nice rebranding of the website, by the way! thumb.gif
