1.44 vcore is a rather high voltage for a beginner

Not my intention. It's actually the motherboards auto tune. I'm actually taking a break from the clocking installing windows on the new Samsung m.2 ssd. The speeds on this are sick but I can't figure out why my sata ssd's ar no longer there.

Thanks to everyone that helped me get to the conclusion that the CPU upgrade section in my bios was bad because it adjusted the voltage to be a safe overclock. I set the bios to 1.35V and adjusted the overclock to 4.5. Ran intel extreme stress first and it passed. Bumped up to 4.6 and the intel extreme test failed within the first minute.

So I bumped back down to 4.5 and ran aida64 and heres my results.

4.5 with a max temp of 72 is pretty reasonable I guess.

Thanks everyone for helping.

I am able to get 4.8 Ghz all cores in turbo stable at 1.48 volts so wondered why your Vcore is so high?
hi bro, i got exactly same specs as yours and same temp on 4.6ghz and failed if tuning v.core on 4.6 Ghz. but it stable with 4.5 and i got exactly same temp while run on aida64. i tought im the only one, but as long the temperature is below 90 im okay. my v.core set to auto is below 1.4 sometimes it peak 1.43 , but average on 1.38 .

You guys with gigabyte MB should go to the skylake thread and start reading there... you will lean that HWinfo64 is the best so far for gigabyte MB, that LLC with gigabyte is REALLY dangerous if you dont have a multimeter and monitor the voltage point... Example LLC high with 1.395 in bios, result in 1.380/1.392V in software under load but in reality on voltage point its 1.425 ish no vdrop at all. So when you set 1.48 in bios you breaking the 1.5V + for sure if you have LLC "on". Also adaptive with LLC on is shooting near 1.55v+ that with "NORMAL" adaptive so +.000V so if you want to use adaptive disable LLC .adaptive was not game stable for me but was prime stable...

Using an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler, I can run prime-95 on this I7-6700K all day all four cores at 4.5 Ghz and it never gets above 60C. Intel told me should not exceed 74.4C on this CPU. With a more normal workload I can get away with 5.1 Ghz, but given that customers use this box someone WILL find a way to abuse it (such as Povray) so it needs to be stable fully stressed. This is with 64GB of Vengence 2400 Mhz memory. With only half the memory I can get away with about 100Mhz more.

If your temps are like that, they'll probably only be at about ~48-50c with x264 and povray. What volts are you using?

The exceeding 74.4c thing is debatable but it's not very relevant because it won't actually happen

I'm running CPU core voltage at 1.35, memory 1.2. To get 5.1 I had to run the CPU core up to 1.48 but then it got too hot under mprime (Linux equivalent of prime95). One of the things with the manufacture or chips is that focus is sharpest at the center of the wafer and becomes less sharp near the edges. So chips near the center will have more sharply defined features, lower leakage, less heat production at a given clock speed, and generally can be clocked higher than those near the edges. I haven't kept up on the advances in photo lithography but I have to think at 12nm resolutions, this becomes even more critical.
