AVerMedia LiveGamer Extreme GC550 LGX

Hello all. I'm looking for any other AVerMedia GC550 owners that use an ASmedia USB 3.0 chipset.

I bought this card after reading many reviews and they all seemed very favorable. However, I didn't read as many unfavorable reviews as I probably should have. My fault. I wanted the latest and seemingly best capture card and this one seemed to fit the bill. The only problem is you need to have the right USB 3.0 chipset for the card to run properly.

It must be Intel Native, Renesas, or a Fresco USB 3.0 chipset. None of the favorable reviews really mention this little fact. Yes, one check of the specifications on their site would have cleared it up, but again that's my fault.

So, whats the real problem? The problem is the card crashing and throwing up a "No Signal" error message when I try to stream to Twitch using OBS. It works fantastically for about 15 mins with my streaming computer putting out a high quality stream. 1080p at 60 fps down sampled to 720p. It's much better than trying to stream with just one computer.

So, I'm here to ask if anyone has got their GC550 to work with an ASmedia USB 3.0 chipset? If so, how? If not, do you think a driver could add the support? Maybe I should have gone with the Elgato.

Hi,

Have you tried the Intel chipset connected ports?

I myself have a Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH board, and it has two intel connected ports, but those are up in front. And all the other six ports run off a VIA USB3.0 hub. My LGX works fine however over the VIA hub (rear ports). since moving to Windows 10.

But sometimes it doesn't turn blue, so I have to reboot. I think that's windows fault. coz if it doesn't get detected, all usb3.0 ports aren't available...

Make sure also you're using the usb3.0 cable that came with the LGX, and no extension cables. (Althought, I use a switchable USB3.0 hub, but if I add another device other than the LGX, it fails to get detected...I just use it to have something to power the LGX off or on)

Good luck

Says in the GamerZone site that its better to be using the MS USB 3.0 driver in Windows 8.1/10 if you have an ASMedia chip

USB 3.0(Verified chipset:Intel chipset with native USB 3.0 host controller)
※LGX can be used together with these certified chipsets:ASMedia / VIA / Renesas / Fresco
【For using Windows® 10 / 8.1】
 ・Intel / ASMedia / Renesas / Fresco:
We recommended to update your the USB 3.0 chipset driver on your computer to the latest version
  through 【Windows Update】.
 ・VIA:
Please be sure to use LGX before you downloaded and installed the latest USB 3.0 host controller driver
from your PC / motherboard / USB3.0 PCI-E Card via manufacturer
(Replace Windows built-in xHCI driver with VIA xHCI driver.)

【For using Windows® 7】
 ・Intel / Fresco:
We recommended to update your the USB 3.0 chipset driver on your computer to the latest version
  through
 【Windows Update】.
 ・ASMedia / VIA / Renesas:
Please be sure to use LGX before you downloaded and installed the latest USB 3.0 host controller driver
  from your PC(Laptop/Desktop) / motherboard / USB 3.0 PCI-E Card via manufacturer.
※With ASMedia chipset, 1080p@60fps recording is only supported when running Windows 10 / 8.1 with
  Microsoft’s built-in USB 3.0 driver.
If you are using ASMedia USB 3.0 chipset, we recommend using Windows 10 / 8.1, or connect
your LGX to a compatible USB 3.0 port (Such as Intel’s - Check FAQ page:「Which USB 3.0 hub
  is my LGX using?」).

Forgot to update this thread.

Yes, I had to use the USB 3.0 from the Intel chipset on my ASUS Maximus VI Extreme mobo with my 4790K. So, I'm gaming with my ASUS Rampage IV Gene and 4930K instead. I wanted it the other way around, but at least my two PC streaming setup with the LGX capture card works. Thanks guys.
