what gigabyte motherboard issues in general might cause this ???? I have a z68xp-ud4

Could it be in anyway related to the CPU throttling settings ? Anyone ever heard of those upsetting a GPU ?????????

What about the drivers, do older drivers support the 980 ti's or is it only the newest ?

Right now I have the card in my backup rig, but I don't know what to try aside from putting it to sleep to see if I lose the GPU signal..........that didn't cause it every time and the last 2 times was when GTAV crashed seeming due to a sound problem (or at least the sound was acting up right before the crash, and I had been alt-tabbing to windows, and the time after was right in the middle of a utube video)

Well my PSU is a practically brand new EVGA supernova 850W gold rated, and it powers single and crossfired r9 290s just fine, never once had any problem with them, and I've been using them perfectly each time I can't get the 980 ti working again

Right now its on an XFX 750W black pro, for like an hour tho.

See the other thing is, after each time the 980 ti failed, and multiple restarts would not work, I'd put in an r9 290.

And next time I'd put the 980 ti back in it would work again

Now I don't remember if I had the 980 ti fail, put in the r9 290, run windows again, then immediatly put back in the 980 ti to see , I might have IDK...............but each time after the 980 ti sat for 2-3 days, it would immediatly work again.

To me thats the MB or both win7/8 or the 980

my MB has already partly fried tho from all the rebooting I did trying to restart the 980 ti, holding in the power button, the logo screen only shows up all messed up in the form of big purple and black blocks

I can order a nice new ASRock Z75 PRO3 for 100 and tax, and ride out this i7-2700k just fine for games for a another 2-3 years. This gigyabyte is +3yr old for sure and I don't trust MB to last much

Why do you use SLEEP? I mean, you could run your PC 24/7 and nothing will happen for a long long time. They don't consume much power when at idle either. My rig consumes 144W at idle and thats with power settings to Max Performance. If i change the CPU OC to offset mode and select power saver within windows then it consumes 88W!!!!

Just don't use SLEEP, its not a laptop.

I know it's a bit random, but have you tested your RAM?

I built three M-ITX rigs recently, they were all running fine and one started acting funny. The BIOS resolution was completely off (couldn't see much of it, and the screen was cut), and when in Windows, small things like the WiFi and other icons in the notification area started to disappear. BSOD's were starting to get a bit frequent too. I thought it was something to do with the Graphics, possibly the CPU/Mobo.

After a re-installation and the like, I swapped the stick of RAM out with another and hey-presto, she was all fine.

I know it's a long-shot, but it's surprising the affects that bad RAM can have.

Hope you manage to solve the problem, either way. If you do find a resolution, please pop it here so others may use it for future reference. Good luck! thumb.gif
