Ahh, the advantage of better memory. That's Samsung? Mine is Hynix and I can't get it above the frequency stated in the test. Driver just crashes and it takes a lot of time to recover itself.

Cards with Samsung RAM usually are not capable of clocking the RAM very high compared to Hynix cards, so I guess he's using a Hynix card. rolleyes.gif

Actually Samsung is preferred for memory on GPU's which is why the K|NGP|N's use it.

Although Hynix can work very well too. thumb.gif

I've noticed I can push my Hynix quite high as long as the gpu temperature is below 50°C. Above 50°C it just doesn't go over 1828 MHz.. So I'm guessing that if I change the thermal pads with better ones, I might be able to push it further. I currently have a combination of 1mm + 0.5mm pads per memory chip because the ones that came with the waterblock were not thick enough to reach it.

But that's because Samsung memory has better latencies and with proper cooling (LN2) the performance overall could be better. Another plus for Samsung cards could be that the core frequencies seem to go way higher than on Hynix cards.

On my G1 Gaming card with Samsung memory, I could only go up to 2050 MHz where on my G1 Gaming card with Hynix memory, I could bench at 2500+ MHz. Both cards are watercooled.

Hynix sucks and we all got screwed especially people like me with the lightning cards. They sent out sammies to all the overclockers and then gave all their high dollar paying customers hynix. Let's just admit it sucks compared to sammies and be done with it honestly. I'm tired of hearing people stick up for hynix. They're a lower class period.

so 1mm & 0.5 is official thickness of thermal pads? im searching for a new kit for my g1 gaming.maybe 3x1.00 on the vrm and 1x0.5 for the mosfet.confirm that ?

In my case it's between 1 and 1.2mm gap between VRAM and the water block. I've got myself Arctic Cooling 1.5mm thick thermal pads and put them on. The thermal performance is amazing. VRAMs are now perfectly seated in pads and I can easily hit +500MHz over stock clock reaching 2000MHz (4000MHz as reported by FurMark, don't know how this scales up).
I've also used 1.5mm on VRMs.

Officially what you get with the waterblock is 0.5mm for VRAMs and 1mm for VRMs. I'd just suggest getting the 145x145mm pad from Arctic Cooling and cut it as needed for VRAMs and VRMs.
