where my badly painted black line is put an oring big enough in there then use a flat perspex square then the 115x mounting holes drilled into it then put the inlet one side out let other side then the water would flow across it better

Nothing like a bit of MS Paint to explain what I'm gibbering on about tongue.gif

Black spots get filled with epoxy. Remove o-ring in centre so the base stays nice and flat. Drill a new 12mm inlet in top left corner. Fill the old centre inlet hole with a grub screw or epoxy. Coolant flows in the new inlet, but as the pins are quite restrictive the coolant fills up that channel on the left, then gets forced across the block through the copper pin matrix. The TEC is under that whole solid part in the middle.

Just saw what you posted, right I didn;t realize you were saying not to modify the top but to just make one from scratch. yeah thats plan B, but I think I can modify the block pretty easily to do what I want, and I think it might work. Plus I needed an excuse to get a revision 2 top for it haha

your idea i see what your saying but you'll get a hot spot at the bottom on intake side and top on outlet side you really could do with them center like i showed you try your way though be interesting to see how well it works biggrin.gifthumb.gif

yeah ideally I'd have the inlet/outlet in the center like yours but I can only do that if I custom make a top, which can be done quite simply, but I really like the stock mounting mechanism on this swiftech block so I'd like to keep using that, would be hard to incorporate that into the custom one, but as you say could just use the perspex as the mount but I need to torque the TEC's down with that mount so it has to be strong. The swiftech mounting plate is like 2.5mm thick steel so I can put a bit of torgue in without worrying about cracking the mount, cracking the motherboard is a different story if I get carried away with it hahaha.

I think it can work the way I want to modify it. Also the spots in bottom left and top right that might not get much coolant aren't actually covering the TEC at all.

TEC is basically this big.

I'm banking on the restrictiveness of the copper pin matrix to basically create back pressure in that inlet channel on the left, so that it will be pressurized evenly, not just at the point where the inlet hole is, so that the coolant is forced across the block evenly by the built up back pressure rather than by the actual inlet flow itself as would happen normally, also without that little o-ring in the center there is no clearance above the pins really so it should be more restrictive but as it has the whole width of the block to flow across it should still flow freely.

hahaha yeah I know it is strong stuff, but can't beat the setup this block comes with with the tools I have at hand to make a custom top and mount. I could make a piece of perspex to perfectly slot into the place of the existing top and use the factory mount if I had the time, but I figured this would work close enough to that setup and better than it does now, enough for me to be satisfied until I can afford to make a full custom block anyway.

I've reached the limits of this CPU, but I got it 100% stable at 4.9Ghz, 1.48vcore, 4.5ghz Cache 1.35vring, 2.1vrin, 2400Mhz RAM 1.65v +0.2v on System Agent, IO analog and IO digital. LLC is off, but this motherboard is weird, I enable it and then next time I go back into bios it's disabled itself, there doesn't seem to be any vdroop anyway, the LLC can only be turned on or off, there are no LLC levels like usual. Temperatures top out in the high 40's under Realbench Stress Test, mid 30's in games. Cold plate holds at 15*c in games, but jumps to about 21-22*c in stress tests.

I'm up to 371 CPU multi thread score in Cinebench R15 and 190 single core with 1.96x multi score. I'm pretty happy with that. I'll keep looking for a 4690k or 4790k though. This dual core will run out of legs in games in the next year or 2 with direct X 12 out now.

Dont get too attached to those small IHS:Core deltas lol.

A 3770k or 4790k with a 15c cold plate is a heck of a lot hotter then 40s once you push 4.7+ghz redface.gif.
