Right. You should be able to hit decent speeds but when it comes time to tighten down timings to really dial in the latency, they can struggle. For example, 2000 7-7-7 1T are speeds that Elpida Hypers are capable of. However, being able to do this on 1156 fully stable is very uncommon.

oh right i get you sorry i didn't think about fine tuning ram speeds being bad i dont think id be able to pull my timings down much i just leave them on xmp 1600mhz

also LiamG6 i ran some cinebench r15.0 heres some results i hant done no tuning this is just all auto voltages and other stuff 4gb ram on 1600 xmp, cpu 20x205 1.336v, gtx 295 at 710 core 1110 ram 1.085v

notice how going from 3.81 to 3.91 to 4.02 from 3.91 to 4.02 made a 1.01% change across all 8 threads thumb.gif

I thought the res might be causing issues. That's a large body of water just sitting there warming up when it isn't passing through the chiller. I've always thought having a res buffer to hold temps wouldn't work as well because it's so hard to insulate to keep it at the right temp. The more time the coolant spends in the chiller blocks the better. With the same ambient a plus your other rads and eventually the other chillers you'll be able to tame that Xeon. Be really nice if you could solve the memory issues.

That Cinebench run is great to see. You have about 60% of my single thread at 4.5ghz compared to 4.9ghz g3258, so not that bad if we were at similar clock speeds. I have 8gb 2400mhz ram and that was good for 10 points alone moving up from 1600mhz. I'll run a bench at 4.5ghz when I get a chance. Your multi score handily whoops my little dual but not by as much as I thought. I'm at 371 multi at 4.9ghz, wouldnt drop that much at 4.5ghz.

I'm in the process of buying a quad core but I'll keep this little pentium for some fun. Hopefully you can solve your ram issues but I don't think ecc is the answer. Can you try running your ram at 800 or 1066 in dual channel and see if it picks it up?

yea single channel is taking around 30% or cinebnech i was reading loads of threads off google search showing how much it waists frown.gif

i have actually tried that tried 1066 1.5v
tried the T1 set the timings to 9-9-9-24 t1 ( got 8-8-8-22 atm wink.gif )but it just wont use that sick in dual channel it is kinda annoying but if i get 8gb it would be enough for me

i want to sell my gtx 295 and buy a 5850 for cross fire as its just my gpu sucks its a PNY with clu on chips and overclocks well on stock volts i gained 100mhz n lowered the volts tongue.gif gained 180 with +025v temps dont even go above 84*c under hours of stress test n gaming

oh yea your cpu is how much newer then my quad core though? wink.gif also its strange i beat most cpu's in single thread but in multi i dont but then again mine is fsb nb ram clocking not just multi upping haha wish my cpu did that wheee.gif < thats how i feel every time i push del on booting to just change 1 thing

22x206 yessir.gif is absolute max my gd65 will go 1mhz fsb more wont boot devil.gif

my Cinebench R15 single with core at 4.9ghz with 4.5ghz cache and 2400mhz ram is 190, so single speed on these is so insanely good that it can hold its own against quads of previous generations, mostly its better than my old Core 2 Quad which is all I cared about when I bought it hahahaha. Getting the higher frequencies stable with haswell is quite fun, lots of voltage tuning, vRin, vRing, vCore, Sytem Agent, IOD, IOA, DRAM, PCH, lots of voltages to tune, very time consuming if you change 1 at a time and stress test every time. But it does get you a few hundred extra mhz on core and cache over just upping multi and vCore. To get stability above 4.6ghz core I need to tune voltages a fair bit, especially to run 2400mhz ram on my pentium at the same time and up more cache frequency a lot.

I've got a R9 280x and it seems a good match for this system and the games I play, be better once I get a quad though.

Memory is huge is Cine so I'd say you are losing 20 odd points just from that in the single core, much more in multi. So if you get that sorted you will be much better off. you think it could be the motherboard has some busted dimm channels? Can you run the single stick in any of the channels?

Thats like my old P5Q deluxe with my Q9550, 471mhz FSB ran rock solid for 5 years+, 472mhz wouldn't boot.

yea its just funny i think i put a £40 server chip thats from 2009 against a 3770k and its not any worse or better the price i saved is a win rolleyes.gif only if i had a p55 giggabyte board that i could of pushed 230fsb would been close to your speeds then also my chip is actually only 4 ghz on cinebench as it has turbo in single n duad threaded tasks to 4.5 4.3 or 4.09 in quad so try your chip at 4 then see the difference ill have to load test my chip n show you it runs 20x200 with 4 cores rendering but it runs weirdly in single core cine bench it jumps around alot going from 4.5 to 4 so i have no idea the speeds im really doing ill turn off 2 cores and ht tomorrow and run a true dual core and do a cinebench will be bad as chip disnt work as well but some idea

well, i pulled the trigger on that 4670k ES, with that 190w TEC I bought and all this new hot side cooling I got I'm hoping I can push that puppy to ~5.2ghz before i run out of temp headroom. I got those 3000rpm furious vardar fans installed today, man they are like jet turbines, silent at 40% PWM, audible at 50%, down right shake my case at 100% PWM though. I'll make up some neoprene gaskets to quieten them down a bit. I was really happy with my little pentium because it was punching way above its weight for AUD$50, but for what I do those extra cores will come in really handy, and hopefully I can handle the heat load of the 4670k to push it past 5ghz. Gonna be fun to play with in a few weeks.

That xeon you got is really a nice sweet spot for price/performance. You aren't giving up much to all these newer architectures, except the memory probs, if you get that sorted and maybe if you can get the giga board to push 230fsb you will be taking names for the 24/7 oc rigs with your chiller

I'm a bit busy but if I get a chance I'll run some tests at 4ghz multi and 4.5ghz single in Cinebench R15, I'll drop the ram to 1600mhz too. your timings 8-8-8?

8-8-8-22 t1 and yea it will be fun project for you biggrin.gif
Also my cpu is good enough for now for me as just the HT helps a lot in my editing it dosnt lag behind like the fx quad did

Also well have to run some tests when you get your chip do like 3 3.5 4 4.5ghz tests see how much I'm loosing by but I'll run some more tests later also need some dice see how good this chip is under cold see if it would pass the wall by much at 1.6 volt range
