[Build] 6.8L MiniCube - Iris Pro Graphics 6200 - FlexATX - Page 4

why not another cooler that doesnt have an impact on the ram slots?
Thread Starter
Because I paid a lot for this one! tongue.gif
I could swap it with a NH-C14, but have to wait until I don't need it in the build it is in right now.
And actually I would like to be sure a second DDR stick will add something. From what I read single vs dual channel doesn't bring anything more in the real world.
Maybe single channel could have an impact with Iris Pro Graphics, dunno...

It's cos Iris Pro 6200(or any other on-board GPU) will use the system memory for the graphics memory, so having faster memory and running dual channel will increase the GPU performance.

I'll compare 3DMark11 scores with different settings when I have time, e.g. different memory speed, dual/single channel
2400MHz dual channel = ~3100
2400MHz single channel = ?
1600MHz dual channel = ?
1600MHz single channel = ?

But post your 3DMark11 score so it'll give us rough idea.

Would be cool if you can make such tests! thumb.gif
I should have done that before installing the Dark Rock...

Looks awesome! You don't really know whether the Fan mod works until it's too late, but I think the FSP units should have thermal auto-shutdown, at least I'd hope so.

I am glad how out it turned so far, hopefully even better to come with CPU speed and aesthetic.

Heh, do I better put the case behind the monitor to have a shield in case of explosion?cryingsmiley.gif

The PSU spec (http://www.fsp-group.com.tw/index.php?do=proinfo&id=1778) mentions "Safety : CE,FCC,TUV,UL/cUL".
Don't know if one of these standards includes a thermal protection.
I will try to contact FSP to get more info.

UL and CE do require thermal shutdowns because they both cover safety (fire hazards from cooling system failure)

Intel answer about single/dual channel impact on the iGPU Iris Pro Graphics 6200:
Quote:
Dear Customer,

Agent Comments:
Dual-Channel memory mode provides maximum performance on real world
applications.
Theoretically, dual-channel configurations double the memory bandwidth
when compared to single-channel configurations. Basically it effectively
doubling the data transfer rate between the CPU and memory.
The two channels handle memory-processing more efficiently by utilising
the theoretical bandwidth of the two modules, thus reducing system
latencies, the timing delays that inherently occur with one memory
module. Single-channel memory would feed the data to the processor via a
single funnel.
Dual-channel memory, on the other hand, utilises two funnels, thereby
having the capability to deliver data twice as fast.
Dual- channel memory configuration should increase system performance.

Sincerely,
Intel Customer Support
Even though my question was specific about their iGPU, their answer looks like a copy/paste from a wiki, and I've waited more than one week for that... puke.gif

I am going to forward them the following link hoping they will reply with a more informative message:
http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1349-ram-how-dual-channel-works-vs-single-channel/Page-3
Quote:
Gamers, mainstream users, and office users shouldn't care. Actually, at the end of the day, the same rule applies to everyone, simulation pro or not: It's density and frequency that matters, not channeling.

Looking forward to your test gintama7888! smile.gif
