The point is yeah nvidia will have 5 fps more on these games. But it doesnt matter except if you care about numbers. They are unplayable with either gpus at least on my experience.

Yeah amd has an overhead and maybe fury doesnt perform for this reason but it only matters to the people that care about max performance. And when you get at this point you need to think about so many other things that bottleneck your gpu except dx11 overhead.

Its a miracle that we can get 100+ fps with an api that depends so heavily on single thread performance for rendering.


I agree with all. But unless I am mistaken, SC2 and GW2 are DX9 only ,which is even crappier than DX11 for both AMD and nvidia across the board.

Also World of Tanks is still DX9, whatever DX11 advantage nvidia has over AMD in terms of CPU overhead won't apply.

Nvidia in has always had better CPU overhead even before the miracle DX11 driver. I think the DX9 CPU overhead is more important to most people then DX11 for older games.

True about DX9, and while I only did any testing on some random Dx9 mmo title screen camera drive, it seems AMD and Nvidia are sort of even on Dx9 (single GPU; pretty sure crossfire frametime was broken for Dx9, or something.).

Not sure which of these games actually use what, though.

Not quite the truth. Back in the fermi vs VLIW days when I had my 560Ti, I recall tests and discussions pointing on the other direction, of fermi being a bit heavier on the CPU due to overhead. Regardless, DX9 is a totally different rendering path than DX11, the whole DX11 overhead findings, the multithreaded capacity of nvidia's DX11 driver etc do not apply on DX9, this is a totally different beast altogether, much much worse in terms of MT than DX11.

More evidence of Overhead. The DX12 results show the 980 Ti and Fury X have similar strength, but in DX11, there is some overhead on AMD side. Also Nvidia are held back, mostly from the API's limitations no doubt.

This is not overhead. Dx11 version of AOTS lacks a profile for amd. There is no point to even develop a profile for dx11 everyone will use dx12.
