AMD GPU Drivers: The Real Truth. - Page 43

Hope you have a comfortable chair. Going to be waiting a while before any reputable benchmarker goes and benchmarks indie games en masse.

Interesting, thanks for the info.

This makes more sense why AMD pushed Mantel and why they excited for DX12 and Vulkan.
It is going to be interesting to see how AMD and nVidia compete under DX12 when they release their full compliant DX12 cards, it is exciting.

The thing is... on most indie games you do not really need a comparison. They run well enough on most things.

What is really surprising me though is how there are few benchmarks for actual popular games like CS GO or World of Tanks. Games that are many times more popular than Witcher 3 or Far Cry or Crysis 3 or Fallout 4.

I can however say that single-threaded and a half STALKER is STILL CPU limited no matter your machine. Such is life frown.gif

Well CSGO is a bloody DX9 game that doesn't support multi-gpu anyway so its a poor title to try to benchmark. I presume at some point it will get the Source 2 engine treatment like Valve gave Dota2. Then it may be worth benchmarking.

Oh you will be surprised at how heavy many of them actually are, many are not as optimized as they should be if they were in the hands of bigger more resourceful AAA developers.

But that is exactly my point, gamers are in for nasty surprises with their rig performances in those less known games.

Well tell me of such games.

I am left with the impression that mid-tier (like 4A Games and CDProjektRed) and indie developers are honestly simply flat out better than most AAA devs at both game design and programming. Same goes for modders.

I dont know of indie games that can be that demanding.

Well as I said before, they are rather unoptimized than something we would call truly demanding, as for examples

1. Weirdly many isometric games made using unity engine suffers from this, recent crpgs like shadowrun series, wasteland 2 and divinity original sin (including the enhanced versions for these 3 series) are surprisingly heavy considering the graphical quality they have; you can also add satellite reign to that list too considering it was made with unity and being isometric

2. Even game like the freshly launched xcom 2 runs horrible and yes xcom 2 can indeed fall into indie category

3. Then you have cpu heavy games like cities skylines, beamng drive, wreckfest which can demonstrate amd weakness with cpu overhead, you can include my original post on this subject that showed dcs world performance in which amd cards suffer heavily with cpu overhead

4. Elite dangerous with the horizon update is quite a beastly animal to tame, which as I've also heard run poorer on amd hardware due to cpu overhead

I'm quite sure there are other titles, would be nice if they do benchmarks on such titles, instead of only console centric games.

1. Well I cant tell you here as I am yet to play them.

2. XCOM 2's issues are different. All GPUs are affected. It should be fixed though.

3. I had no issue with Skylines on my R9 390 and i5 4460 even at 1440x900 tongue.giftongue.gif

4. Never played it so I do not know.

I do see stutter in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though. That is natural however... we need a 8GHz core speed and Skylake or Kaby Lake IPC and great DDR4 to deal with that...

UPDATE 24/02/2016: More evidence of AMD's DX11 single threaded performance issues. Look at the boost over DX11, and over the 980 Ti, in DX12.

hardly any change at 4K. There might be 'real' truth to this . . .
