The package arrived with 2 extra layers of bubble on the outside of the box. I opened the box with great freaking trepidation and was relieved to find a massive panel in perfect condition.

I would like to say that the people in Korea that sold me the monitor did what they were supposed to do. Even the store that was out of the "Perfect Pixel" were very honest, apologetic and refunded me immediately. In contrast, I was lucky to be pulling into my driveway as the UPS truck pulled up. The truck was equipped with a dolly and a ramp and I watched as the driver threw packages around to get to mine then jerked my box out with no regard to the "fragile" markings. He then threw it up and balanced it on his head. I had to stop him and take it from him. It is apparent to me that anyone that gets a damaged panel has UPS to blame more than likely. With that being said I would advise anyone getting panel this size to request the wooden crate to protect themselves from UPS.

It is hard to see the sheer awesome massiveness of this monitor from the iphone pics. Anyone that is familiar with KRK Rokit 8's or a Mountain Mods case will understand how big this thing is when they see it dwarfing those speakers and case. For further reference, the TV to the left of the MM case is 37'' not including a 2'' wide bezel. The picture is amazing, crisp and clean. I did the chroma test, it passed, the model I received is rgb not rgbs, and it is running in 4k at 60 hz. Just absolutely stunning.

Awesome! I am glad you absolutely like the monitor! When I created this tread, it was hard to describe the monitor (I still think words don't do it justice). This is something that has to be seen for yourself to be blown away as you described!

Ugh, sorry to hear you watched UPS toss packages around, but I am glad you were able to stop him in time to receive yours and bring it in the house. It's very sad that these drivers have respect or care for peoples items. I've heard so many horror stories about how packages are handled at UPS. Thankfully, my UPS guy is older (not that it makes a difference) and is very nice. He's always at my house delivering packages!

I like your MM case! I use to have one with 32 fans! lol. My case way so huge, that I eventually had to get rid of it! I have came to appreciate smaller and compact cases with a clean wiring inside.

Btw, I really like your bookshelf speakers. Are you using something similar to Lepai amplifier to power them?

Those look like KRK Rokkit monitor speakers, which are active and have built in power supplies, so a speaker amplifier isnt necessary.

Yes, they are KRK. Interesting, I didn't know they have built in power supplies. Is there a connector that connects to the end of the speaker wire to allow it to plug into the speaker port?

For those of you interested, attached is a picture of my Mac connected to the UHD550 with extended display. It's connect via HDMI 2.0 port of the UHD550 display.

Looks bloody good.
Still on the fence whether to get one of these or a 34" Ultrawide or a Samsung 4K 55" SUHD TV frown.gif

Thank you!

I would not recommend the TV. While it will be great for watching your programs via coax, you will regret it for desktop use. TV's have too much lag. As stated earlier, one of the OC users purchased a LG OLDED 4K 55" TV for gaming and had issues. The motherboards in TVs are made different. With the UHD550, you can still get your ultra wide feel, game in 4K, and use it as a TV for movies, cable (via HDMI), etc. The best of all three worlds! thumb.gif

As they are studio monitors, they will not natively accept speaker wire. They do however, accept the following for input: RCA, TRS, and XLR. Built in amplification for those particular ones is 75 watts for the low end, and 25 watts for the high end.

Oh, did not know this. I don't know much about studio speakers (or speakers in general). How are they connected to the PC then or what way do you recommend connecting it to the PC?

For use with a gaming rig, most would probably use a 1/8" "headphone jack" to dual rca adapter, followed by independent from me achieve other rca cables. Plugging into the headphone output of your motherboard (or internal sound card if you're using one) is the simplest.

You can go more complicated and have a "proper" audio interface (like say the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2),which would allow you to use trs cables (think larger or 1/4" "headphone" cable connectors, except it's designed to carry just a single channel of audio instead of two like most headphones - same connector, it's just wired differently) but I personally believe that for general purposes spending the extra money on an audio interface isn't necessary unless you're recording audio as well.

They are not bookshelf speakers, curlyp, they are professional studio monitors. They are powered monitors so they do not require an amp. I have them paired with a KRK 10s sub. Those monitors are 16" tall and the UHD 550 dwarfs them. They are ungodly loud if you want them to be, yet have an incredibly clean sound at any volume. I run the whole setup through this http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio/M-Track-Plus.gc which is plug and play. The studio monitors alone are better than any home theatre or computer speakers by a freaking mile, unless you spend several thousand dollars, not an exaggeration. With the sub it is an unrivaled music and gaming experience. My Klipsch pro-media ultra 5.1's finally kicked the bucket about a year ago, and after looking for a working replacement sub I got turned on to studio monitors. Trust me on this, get a pair if you have the means.

I know Mountain Mods is a bit long in the tooth but I still prefer a big spacious case for ease of access and versatility. Plus I like the way it looks, the aesthetics hold up as well imo. I also think they are good value when compared to other boutiques like Caselabs.
