Can't sync iPod because I keep getting "unknown error [-53]" (Network Path not Found) - Page 2

So, remember I said I did a hard reset/restore, and then synched all 27 songs from one artist (one of who's files is the one where the sync always fails), and the sync went without a hitch? Well, when I ejected the iPod and played back that specific song, there were some artifacts, including skips and sudden blips of music that isn't even in my library.

And, remember how I copied a bunch of stuff while in disk mode, and that process failed after? Well, I went to Windows Explorer and played back that file, and encountered the same kinds of artifacts, including blips of music that isn't past of my library.

To me, this suggests that either the HDD or the storage controller is failing. The built in Windows disk drive scan/repair features (including Chidam) give the drive the green light, but maybe they just aren't that good? Or maybe there's something about the device, as an iPod, that "fools" Windows?

I did some searching for hard disk diagnostic/repair freeware, and couldn't find anything that said yes, this product will perform hard disk diagnostics and repair. Can you recommend anything? I'm kind of trying to figure out, at this point, whether this iPod is a lost cause.

Try the tools built into Windows first. Chkdsk isn't a terrible tool.
