I don't think it looks terrible. I do think that the armor has become progressively worse looking with each generation though.

Cooling should be the same. The only issue I has was MAJOR dust build up under the plastic with the fans installed. No fans = No dust. Other than that it was a solid board. Z77 that is.

^ this. I would venture a guess that would mean there is a significantly worse problem if it is.

I don't mind the plastic covers to be honest. I don't think it looks childish at all. That being said the idea behind it is kind of hokey. Do they think we're using these custom PC's in a war zone or driving across the Rocky's? The Armor and Backplate is just eye candy for me. It makes for some nice looking clean builds. Besides that the Sabertooth line is usually built with a better sense of durability than the ROG series which can cost significantly more.

The armor looks absolutely terrible. Sorry

Yay for motherboards, though.

Current Z77 Sabertooth owner, so thumbs up for the new armor look. Features? Specs? Price? Who cares?! It's got an armor shell, so probably fire and bullet proof... all that matters. Haha!

In a dusty environment that armor is worth its weight in gold. It doesn't hurt any temps either.

I have two large dogs that spend most of their time in the same room as my PC. I have expensive metal mesh fan grills on all my intake fans, but still end up with dusty insides. With a Sabertooth board, I can clean my mobo with just a small amount of window cleaner sprayed on a paper towel - unused ports are plugged and covered, and don't get full of dust. Under that shield it still looks nearly new.

I am on my third Sabertooth iteration and have no plans of ever going back to a naked mobo smile.gif.

Hmm I see mixed feelings on the appearance. Lets take a trip down memory lane for Sabertooth boards...

990FX

X58

P67 (my baby!)

Z77

X79

Z87

Z97 Mark 1

Z97 Mark 2

Z97 Mark S

X99

Z170

All-in-all I feel Z170 is the best looking Sabertooth board yet, followed closely by Z97 and Z87.

MSI X99 Godlike has Aluminum thermal armor, I think it looks nice, I'm still going to spray paint it white tho when I get mine lol

I love my x79 Sabertooth! It is a great board, and should last me a few more years with my 4930k, before it gets migrated over to server duty.

If only I had more sata3 ports or some M.2 action...

None the less, I don't mind the "armor" although it would bother me if it wasn't on there.

My main reason for going Sabertooth is the build quality and warranty.

I wonder what will be out in 2018, as that is probably about time I will look at upgrading.

I loved my P67 Sabretooth and plan on grabbing the Z170. I really hope they make a Mark S variant preferably plain matte white armor/white PCB because I want to make a Star Wars themed build in a white H440.

I need help. So I got the Z170 Sabertooth Mark 1 today and I plan on using 32 Gb of Gskill Ripjaw 4 3000MHz ddr4 ram. I've been seeing people say this board can only support up to 2400MHz but if you go on Asus.com and check out the QVL list for this board, my exact ram is listed. So will it work? Someone please give me some good news.

Lol at all the haters. I use a Z97 Mark 1 and absolutely love it. Have fun cleaning dust off and out of your PCB, slots, pins, and whatever else. Great reviews every time. Love these boards.
