Need helping getting my new PC working.

I'll update my build log with pictures tomorrow. It's 10:49pm and I'm too tired and depressed to bother right now. Anyway, I finally built my new gaming rig today and something went wrong when I turned it on for the first time. It won't post and nothing happens on the monitor. Error codes A2 and AE on the little LCD thing on the mobo. A2 is "IDE Detect" and AE is "Legacy Boot event" according to this chart. http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1002017 The CPU and GPU fans spin, but the case fans don't. I'm no good at stuff like this. 99% of my builds go without a hitch so I have no practice. Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: I'm an idiot. It would help if I posted my specs, huh?

MB: Maximus VII Gene.
CPU: I7-4790k
RAM: 16gb (2x8) Vengeance Pro DDR3 2133
GPU: GTX 980ti
PSU: AX760i
HDD: 3tb Western Digital black series something. I forget the model number.

Edit 2: I read on another forum someone having the same Q-code had a bad SATA cable. I'll try changing that out tomorrow and see if it helps.

When diagnosing PC hardware problems, it's worth unplugging whatever might be causing the issue, to see if that fixes it.
Unplug your HDD, and see if it passes POST. If so, it's very likely the SATA cable.

SATA cables are kinda fragile, so it's the likely failure.

Yep, I made it to BIOS. It was the SATA cable. Unfortunately I left my copy of Windows at my aunt's house where I built it so now I have 2 things to feel stupid about. I don't like the way the UPS guy tends to leave things in front of my door and run off without knocking so I send things to her house since she lives in the middle of nowhere and there's always someone home. I'm worried about my parts getting stolen since I live in an apartment. >.< Hopefully I can get my Windows thumb drive back and get this thing up and running soon.

Awesome, glad to hear it.
Yeah, some delivery services really suck, so it's completely understandable to send things like that. A lot of my friends send stuff to my place for the same reasons.

If you're up for trying something new until you get your Windows installer, might I suggest messing around with Linux for a bit?
If you don't like it, you can easily install over it, and it's like nothing ever happened.

I can't do anything right now. I've had all kinds of problems getting this thing up and running. This time I had to RMA my CPU. While I was setting things up and installing drivers I noticed it was in the mid-fifties at idle. Obviously that's not right so I went to go reapply thermal paste and reseat the stock cooler and things got worse. After that it started out in the mid-forties and started slowly climbing until it hit the eighties, at which point I turned it off and tried redoing the thermal paste and cooler again. I went through that over and over until I used up an entire tube of Tuniq TX-4. There's no way this is my fault so I gave up and sent my i7-4790k back to Newegg. Hopefully the next one decides to behave. I doubt Linux would be a good option for my desktop anyway since I play a lot of games. I do use it for my web servers though. I'm a big fan of Apache and MySQL.

Owch, 40s and 50s at idle is higher than I would expect from a stock cooler, but you're not using one of those, are you?

Yeah, Linux still has a long way to go before its any good for gaming. I can't UEFI boot my system because I have a 900 series graphics card, and the only workaround doesn't work for me, because I have a secondary graphics card.

I am temporarily. I just spent a couple thousand dollars on parts and I'm not even done. I still need my SSD, the other half of my RAM and a bunch of cable sleeving and heat shrinks. The water cooling is going to have to wait a while. I'm considering getting an AIO to tide me over until then, but I don't know if it's worth the waste of money knowing I'll replace it eventually anyway.

You'd be better off getting NH-D14. Price should be around the same, performance is often better, but it'll last until the collapse of humanity as we know it, rather than just a couple of years.

Those things are so ugly though. And I'll be throwing it out in less than a couple of years anyway once I get my custom loop.

AIO coolers are overrated overhyped and overpriced so dont bother you can get air coolers that are better cheaper more quiet and more reliable.
They are a stupid fashion gimmick.
