GTX 770 Gainward 2gb - Replacing stock paste with CLU

Thread Starter
So I was searching the web for a review or any kind of hands on thoughts with this card. I could not find any, not a single one. Wanting to know what others were able to clock theirs to and temps, noise levels etc. This is the exact card: http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=911

Not finding any made me want to share my experience.

With the stock paste and the afterburners "built in" fan curve I reached 1280MHz core, 1976,8MHz mem heaven 4.0/Battlefield 4 stable. Looping heaven the temps max was 74 celcius, ambient 23 celcius.

Then I replaced the stock paste from Gainward with Coollaboratory Ultra, and the temps dropped to 66 degrees. Using same oc, using same fan curve.

Thats alot more, than what I was hoping for.

Merry Sunday! smile.gif

That's a pretty decent temp drop for just replacing the thermal paste. Nicely done. Weird avatar photo though lol.

2 Things here:

1st - its the same card as the Palit that i have, Russian review HERE, use google translate maybe?
2nd - Thats CLU is metal right? look at edge of GPU wink.gif its open die and there are SMD. Carefull, yes they may possibly have a thin protective varnish coating over them, but just be cautious.
That said, that temp drop is very impressive, looking to do mine soon.

Nice cool running GPU, got mine used off member on here while back, very happy for what i paid. They Are same PCB as you will see from pictures, in fact im very sure Gainward and Palit are same company.

Have you seen the backplate that Arctic do with the Accelero Xtreme IV? Cools VRM from back also, i have been tinkering with overclock so would love to get hold of this backplate to keep VRM temps down much as possible.

Would like to be able to buy just the backplate but cant find it listed standalone anywhere so may just buy the whole cooler as its fairly cheap....but then again so is their Accelero Hybrid II - 120 i really wouldnt mind splashing out on that even though it cost almost what i paid for the GPU i can re-use it on upgrades. Its mostly that backplate would love to get hold of for cooling VRM from back of card. Or something similar to help VRM temps.

Just a matter of compatability as these Palit/Gainward have different power layout.
Anyway i have mine running solid at:
Base clock 1120
Boost 1145
Max Boost 1200
ASIC quality is 80.2%

Just waiting on a custom bios to be made so i can flash it with these settings permanent.

Heres the PCB comparison shots on EK Waterblock configurator, shows all 2GB PCB same and the full cover waterblocks are all compatible between the whole lot.
Note the model numbers. Same PCB thumb.gif

Not sure about 4GB versions, didnt check

Lol I was looking at those pics for a few minutes trying to understand what the heck was going on, (there's soo many parts) lol, and wow. It's so heavy that it comes with a bracket to support the GPU.

That bracket is quite beefy, but I wonder if there is a way to make a similar one and have it almost not visible. (not for that cooler... for anyone) Hmmm

What like a GPU support?
Think there are some out there, i had a kind of mini pump up type pison one few years ago with a HD5870 iirc but that was totally visible rolleyes.gif

Im wanting some kind of metal backplate/heatsink like this to transfer heat away through thermal pads and to heatsink, holes would have to line up though, custom may be the way to go but my skills...ughhhh they suck

I've seen the piston type pillar support thing before, I kind of like the look of this one though: (if it wasn't so bulky)

Instead of it sticking out so much on the part that touches the GPU, maybe have that bend at the corner under the GPU and kind of hold it up?(for other coolers, like my Kraken G10, not that one in the pic) There would need to be some sort of buffer between the metal bracket and the GPU of course, but I don't know, just an idea.

Yeah i agree, im sure they could have made the support braket much better looking.
Want me one of those backplate heatsinks though biggrin.gif
