Yes, it does look a little, but probably just because you can't see the actual headset view, I can imagine looking over that precipice as robot parts fall in would be very life-like with the set on.

I'm sure the technology is all fantastic but the people were just bad actors, every action, reaction, interaction, facial expression and giggle looked scripted. The editing didn't help either.
It all just screams "this isn't our real job and we're here to sell something."

I guess another way to sum it up. That video was 90% PR and 10% tech demo.

What this guy said.

This is the biggest problem to people Naysaying the technology, is that UNTIL YOU PUT ON VR HMD, it cant be explained OR SHOWN to you how truly immersive it is.

When your in there you lose ALL periphrials, you cant see ANYTHING BUT the game. Its ALL encompassing, all surrounding, its binds us together and is the enegery of the univers..... wait wait not thats the Force from star wars, i was getting mixed up.

But you get my point. This tech is ONLY See to Believe, in the purest sense of that phrase. If your watching a video of it, your just looking at a 2d screen just like you have been your whole life. When the screen takes up your entier view, and moves with you as ur turn, its truly the most incredible feeling that you've never felt before. And what i think this "Feeling" is, is its your brain coping for the first time a simulated dream that it can control. Because all of the other senory information your brain is getting is telling it its real and happening. YOU are the only one who knows that its not real.

Ah yes, the people, I didn't bother thinking about them as more than an accessory. tongue.gif

I agree, they were pretty irritating. But other commenters are right, it's eerily easy how your brain will accept the 'reality' of the VR experience. Very exciting, but also a little frightening.

One limitation I can see with this tech is the amount of real world space you need. They need an omni-directional treadmill in order for you to play an open world game.

I dont know what demo you tried, but if its only a look at a scene in VR type thing, and not an actual gaming exp, then let me tell you and all the other folks what i got done last nite:

TF2 Free Aim AND Free Look with Head and Gun in 360 !!!!

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

So when i was saying about the future of E-Sports and FPS gaming, and having a gun controller that aims like a gun and you can look separate from that?

Well i couldnt wait, soooo..... ya lol!!

Oculus Rift Connect 2 Dev Conference is starting today by the way!!!

Looks pretty cool, but i couldn't watch more than 30 seconds. I don't know what fps you were getting but that would be deemed unplayable to me.

Its 3x better in the rift (I got 2600k and 2x 780 Lightnings with 16g RAM), and i have 2 other FPS buffs that can agree, and thats once again the biggest problem with VR, is SHOWING PEOPLE. You have to be shown and thats all there is to it, viewing videos doesnt do it justice.

However, there's an FPS toll i pay using OBS (and it maxes out at 30 fps on settings, i can switch it to 60 but then everything looks worse everywhere) to broadcast, then when its finaly uploaded to twitch, I upload it to youtube from there, so ya its going through a lot by the time u see end footage, And then i have to rip out audio that gets flagged for DMCA... ya its a pain, i cant whistle or hum anything cool while making footage.
