FX 6300 + Hyper 212 Evo

So I recently got this and am testing the OC to pair up with an R9 380 4Gb from Gigabyte. I was at 4.4Ghz @1.35vCore. At this voltage i run Prime95 well for a few hours before I cancel it. Temps are in the 48-53 range. At 4.6Ghz Prime fails one core and the rest go on for hours.

Thing is I WANT this extra 200Mhz. 3dMark Cloud Gate Scores go up by 300 and Unigen Valley goes up by about 300 as well over the 4.4. Only issue is the 1.4vCore pushes my prime 95 temps to 55-61.8Max....which is the max i believe.

Do I need to reseat my cooler? Should I use the cooler master paste that was provided as apposed to the Arctic Silver 5 I used.

I think my voltages are low yet I've seen other persons with lower temps and higher voltages.

Ambient temperatures plays a role in this as well.

you need to add a fan to your cooler. my hyper 212 evo + DESTROYED my temps (lower) when I got rid of the boring stock fan and added 2 stupidly cheap ebay red LED fans. They are quiet, and with my 4300 at 4.5GHz and 1.47 volts (not a great bin) I max out around 40*C with prime95 running blend for about 7 hours

If you want others to help you, you must help them understand. Plenty of overclockers in the forum, none fortune teller.

In poor words, you need to give people at least your configuration, because for all we know, it could be your motherboard holding you down. You expect people to say something about your cooler, when they don't know even which cooler we 're talking about.

Thermaltake V4 Black Edition Case with two intake(front and bottom)/two exhaust fans(top and rear) Cooler Master 120mm 44.73 CFM rating running at full speed(1100-1200rpm) during all tests.

Average outside daytime temperature is 29-31 Celsius in Barbados where I am. Indoor is cooler not sure the exact temperature.

Barbados! thumb.gif

As I recall the temperature stays pretty much the same year round there, so unless you are in an air conditioned building that is pretty much all you will get out of the 212.

Better case air flow will help as well as better fans on the 212. As it is set up now some of the hot exhaust air from the 380 is being drawn up into the 212, making it work that much harder. More intake fans in the top front of the case will help, but you will eventually need better cooling to compensate for the high ambient temperatures.

70C is limit for max core temperature (although better to leave a safety margin). CPU temperature is socket temperature (basically a motherboard sensor inside the socket) and this doesn't affect the core, but it affects the motherboard's overall heat. If you have CPU socket 62C, but your core is lower, then it's OK.

You could try to add a fan to blow on your VRM heatsink, in case it overheats due to high ambient. Normally, with 212 you go 4.5-4.6, depending on chip. Overall, try to increase airflow as miklkit said.

Reapplied the heatsink last night the paste wasnt spread over the entire CPU(about 60% of it) I reapplied with the cooler master paste with a slight bit more using the pea method.

Now at 4.6@1.4vCore the actual core temperature hangs around 55-61.8 after half hour of prime socket is around 66-68.

I have a small 40mm fan that puts out some strong wind. I'll try pointing that at the VRM heatsink via some cable ties or sort and test.
