Yet another recommend me a power supply thread....

Thread Starter
I'm building a super tight budget light gamer rig. Upgrades will be highly unlikely for a while. Not ever going to be installing a second GPU. Because my current GPU is such a power hog any new one I pick down the road is sure to lighten my power supply's load. The only upgrade that might happen in near future would be going to a quad core cpu. Modular would definitely be a plus but it's something I could sacrifice to keep the price down and the quality up. I can also keep it to 2 x 6+2 pci-e cables to keep the price low. I don't have any brand preferences or loyalties. I just need a high quality unit on the cheap. I never went cheap on power supplies in the past and that's not what I'm looking to do now. I'm just looking for the best bang for my buck.

Specs:

G3258 (plan to overclock heavily)
Z87 OC board
GTX 480
8gb 2400mhz
some type of noctua cooler most likely
probably 3 fans in addition to the 2 on the cooler
1 ssd and 1 mech drive
and some other meaningless stuff. basically a heavily overclocked pentium and a 480. maybe an i5 unlocked cpu down the road but that might be offset by upgrading my gpu to something a little more modern. I was thinking a 500w unit would be more than enough.

Who's got the best value in power supplies right now ?

This one looks pretty good for $40 shipped. Thoughts ?

I sorted PCPartPicker by 450 and 550W PSUs, lowest price first. The first one from the top of the list that I would be able to recommend in good conscience is actually further down the list than the 500W EVGA PSU that you're looking at here because it costs a little bit more but it's worth it:

It's the 550W XFX Pro Series Core Edition. It's a SeaSonic S12II.

The next one that I would recommend might be a SeaSonic S12G. I'm not sure.

It's the 550W XFX TS Series, but it's the Gold Certified one, not the Bronze Certified one.
