Remaining life in 980X

Hi, so my aging rig is getting long in the tooth. It has a 980x on an Asus Rampage III Extreme with 3 way SLI GTX 580s. I have custom loops for the GPUs and the MB and CPU. after shipping from oversees one GPU went dark and the surviving two don't have enough horsepower remaining. So my question is: Can my system support a current high end card (i.e, GTX 980ti)? I have been out of the hardware loop since building this and dont know where things stand exactly. I would like to keep the rest of the setup to save money but not if it will bottleneck the card. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

ya that 980x is not going to hold back a 980ti.

hell even pci-e 2.0 won't hold back 3 980ti's

In 1080p it will hold you back but that card is great for 1440p

Awesome, I did not want to do an entire new build. I was hoping to just throw a single new card into the water loop instead of the other cards. It seems Hydro Coppers are a little hard to get a hold of though. If it makes a difference I'm primarily interested in a VR build. My monitor setup is 3 1080p 120hz monitors. Thanks for the quick responses!
