Need help trying to get my SSD caching restored in Windows 10

Thread Starter
I had to recently replace a defective main HDD in my Dell XPS 27 AiO; I took this opportunity to also upgrade from Win 8.1 to Windows 10 with a clean install. For whatever reason, since these changes I cannot get my system to use my Samsung mSATA SSD to cache processes as it it did previously. The HDD is an exact model replacement and the SSD is still the same one that was factory installed. Nothing else on the machine was altered.

I downloaded the latest driver for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology for windows 10, 64-bit. I made sure the SSD was formatted with no partitions but I still cannot get the Intel Rapid Storage program to give me the Accelerate option - only the 'Performance' tab displays in the program window. The system does appear to be in RAID mode (just confirmed in BIOS after another restart).

Here is a screenshot of both my Disk Management window and RST program window:

Is there something else I'm missing and need to do? Any help is appreciated. thumb.gif

Not too experienced here, but last time i had to set up some sort of intel caching with IRST, i had to put the drives in some sort of RAID 0. Then it gave me the option to boost one drive with the other as a cache. Hope it helps a little bit!

Wow, that's interesting. Thanks for replying, that may be the issue - but I'm not sure how I change the array so they are both 0.

Did you try formatting the SSD you're going to be using for caching? thinking.gif Not sure if that would help it or not, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah, I did format it initially. It just shows Unallocated now, with no partitions.

Someone recommended creating a partition on the SSD and setting it to hibernation mode in diskpart. I tried that and still no recognition from RST. I don't get it. Why is this so hard to set up? The PC came with this functionality and now I have posted on at least half a dozen forums and no one can seem to figure out how to do it.

I can't believe it, the last thing I tried appears to have worked! The "Fix #2" in your link, in which one must shrink the last (main) partition on the main drive is what did the trick. I shrunk the partition by 100MB, creating a small Unallocated space at the end of the HDD. IRST immediately refreshed with the option to enable acceleration under the Performance tab.

Thanks a ton, Sean! No one else could help with this; I even asked on both the Dell and Intel forums (and several others) and no one could figure it out. I can't even tell you how many hours I have spent trying to solve this. Thanks again!
