[TweakTown] Valve isn't excited over DX12, but talks up the Vulkan API - Page 9

if vulkan is as fast, or faster, and as easy, or easier to code with, i don't see a point in using dx12.

why limit yourself to an api that can only be used on one system?

even if you're coding just for windows, still, why? you get no benefit and if later you want to port to another system you can easily do it with vulkan.

Probably because the sole reason that DX has reigned supreme for game development is the utterly extensive documentation of their code. Compared to the complete and utter lack of documentation for OpenGL. I'd rather slit my wrists and pour through the documentation for OpenGL. It is piss poor compared to Microsoft's. I can actually understand half of the darn code because of MS's documentation. And I'm not the only one that feels that way either.

Agreed! I did however reply to someone who doesn't disagree with the notion that 'Vulcan it is just better' than Dx12 = D

Also,

"Ginsberg adds that Vulkan is far superior than DX12 in various areas. "

I'm no going to question them since they know more than me of course but how about let the consumer decide that when we actually have games out with both APIs. There's an alpha with DX12 and there's...hum, is there even anything with Vulkan yet?
considering how many games valve is pushing to be on linux in general http://store.steampowered.com/universe/games
i bet they already have a pretty good amount of games in order for them to actually say that...(not to mention everything that will come on source 2 and i bet on frostbite)

When will Vulkan be released anyways? And is there already a game build on Vulkan in the pipeline? Does anybody know?

Meaning that it is in their best interest to push away DX12...

Less than 20% of my Steam library can run on Linux. If the push for Vulkan increases Linux support for new titles, I am all for it.
