Games artifacting. Can't pin point the cause, please help. - Page 3

Would you try forcing constant frequencies via an overclocking utility like MSI Afterburner? I have the same issues at stock 2D clock frequencies, the screen sporadically shifts to the side at 150/300 MHz, or any other value lower than 300-500(forgot the exact value).

Frustrated I took stuff out of her matx case so I could put the card into her mobo, and lo and behold, no issues. She's running a 1150, i5 4690k, and an ocz 850zx. Installed witcher 3 and far cry 4, and both work fine.

Think it is my two year old psu or my 7mo old motherboard? Which should I purchase to replace first?

Time to isolate your variables. If I understood your post correctly, your wife's setup (using both her mobo and PSU) is a known-good.

Using your wife's mobo, connect up your PSU with the same cabling you have in your system. Game away and see if the issue reproduces. If it does reproduce, then your PSU is suspect.

If it doesn't reproduce, then I'd start eyeballing your motherboard for RMA/replacement.

I've had shorts before, this is not it.

My system works okay with a much less demanding gpu, runs a 290x fine. I used it in the interim of my 295x2 in testing at the manufacturer.

Because of this I highly suspect it's my PSU, and so does XFX.

Alrighty, so, update time!

Ordered a new PSU, after trying all other PSU cords and an additional PCI-E slot on my motherboard, to no avail. Installed it and bam, still doing it. This new PSU is quiet though, thumb.gif Also, fun fact, my old 290x is also flickering now. Whee.

I also ordered a new MiniDP>DP cord, seeing as how mine was super cheap and bad quality. It's not helping either. I highly doubt both of my GPUs are bad, in fact, I know they aren't.

There is a Catalyst display box setting to the effect of "Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays" that I have to check on my Fiance's rig or I get flickering and mouse pointer corruption. She is using a 1920x1200 60hz panel with an old standard DVI cable so I'm not sure if its the monitor or cable causing it, but its worth a shot!

No negatives to image quality or frame rates with it on, and cures all the corruption and artifacting she otherwise would get.

Right, that was my thought too. My GPU only has 4xMiniDP ports and 1xDual-DVI. I've tried 2 different Mini-DP with the same results. The older 290x I used a normal DP cord, and it was fine a week ago, but now it isn't. I keep getting Windows notifications on both the old MiniDP and the DP cord saying that the link is faulty, hence the prompt purchase of the new cord.

Maybe the port is bad on the monitor?

I have no way to test this though as it only has one DP plug.

You tested your GPU in your wife's rig, if I remember correctly. Can't you test your rig on her monitor?

I looked into this and set my display refresh frequency to 50hz, instead of 60. I haven't seen any flickering since. Hopefully that solves it.

You do remember correctly, I did test them both in my wife's rig. I can't test her monitor while she is playing D3 though, I'll give this a shot later or tomorrow.

And this ladies and gentlemen...is why consoles exist lol.

Do you have any hair left from ripping it out? At this point I probably would have sold everything off and started fresh haha.
