[TheAge]Millions more fingerprints stolen in US personnel data hack than first realised

Hackers who stole security clearance data on millions of US Defence Department and other US government employees got away with about 5.6 million fingerprint records, some 4.5 million more than initially reported, the US government says.

The additional stolen fingerprint records were identified as part of an ongoing analysis of the data breach by the Office of Personnel Management and the Department of Defence, OPM said in a statement on Wednesday. The data breach was discovered earlier this year and affected security clearance records dating back many years.

I wonder how many are inactive because XYZ person no longer works in a Job requiring a clearance.
If their Clearance is inactive their fingerprints don't mean jack Lots of people get Clearances for contract work. The contract ends and your clearance goes inactive if not used by your next employer within 2 years.

Well, since OCN doesn't like political talk, I'll just hold my OBVIOUS comments about government to myself.

But given my past security clearances, previous employer, and being a multiple title II weapons holder, odds are my fingerprints are now out there. mad.gif

Even Public Trust (C6) requires finger prints. Basically anybody that works for a gov't agency that deals with financials and/or PII. (including contractors redface.gif )

Welcome to the club...I just reapplied for new clearances too so, I'm probably on the top...

The irony is that, after the previous breach, they upped the SSL's and "modernized" the entire system...Top of the line security...Then some moron downloads a trojan...Ugh.

I loved the comment about, "we don't know what they want with our fingerprints..."

We're supposed to feel safe now about NICS, too? LOL. rolleyes.gif

Your fingerprints don't stop being active, not unless you lose your fingers.
