Thinking of getting another GTX 980Ti in SLI

Thread Starter
I currently own a MSI GTX 980Ti 6G Gaming and it works great and I'm thinking about getting another one in SLI to increase my framerates since I'm on 4K and one just isn't really enough to drive 4K at decent framerates (And I refuse to lower the settings as well). However, prior to when I got my MSI GTX 980Ti I had a pair of GTX 970's and in SLI they were horrible. Many modern games, for example, Shadow Of Mordor would suffer from constant stuttering and inconsistent framerates but disabling SLI would solve this issue. Anybody who has a pair of GTX 980Ti's in SLI care to share their experience? When in SLI do you get frequent poor scaling and inconsistent framerates? Back in 2012 I had a pair of GTX 670's and they worked great, don't know why my GTX 970 in SLI gave me so much trouble.

My specs are below:

Intel i7 5820K OC to 4.2Ghz
ASUS Rampage V Extreme
32GB 2400Mhz DDR4 RAM
Windows 7 x64
1200 watt Corsair PSU

CPUMotherboardGraphicsRAM
AMD Threadripper 1920x ASUS ROG X399 Zenith Extreme Gigabyte 11GB GTX 1080 Ti Aorus Xtreme 32GB G.Skill Trident RGB 3200Mhz
Hard DriveCoolingOSPower
Crucial MX300 1050TB SSD Thermaltake Riing 240mm RGB Windows 10 Pro SilverStone Strider Platinum 1000W Power Supply
Case

I'd go for another 980TI in SLI for 4K, you won't get much stuttering or barely any at all, as long as you stay at 2-way SLI, 3-way and 4-way SLI gets more noticeable stuttering and the scaling is less for more money.

Sli is well optimized for 2x sli and i see huge gains at 1440p@144hz with dual titan x so i can just imagine the nice benefit for 4k. Using windows 10 here.
