Maybe Nvidia toss in an extra 512MB for good measure next time any 970 owners buy a new card from Nvidia. A 512MB DRAM voucher for all affected 970 buyers lol

Perfectly possible right? tongue.gif

3. ashes synthetic benchmark is your reasoning to recommend these GPUs for "gamers"? gamers care about performance in GAMES, you know, witcher3, gta5, dota2, cs:go, etc etc. most gamers also care about power consumption, heat and noise. 4. what good is 1fps more if your gpu consumes 200W more than competition?
thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

1. Compared to the competition (R9 390), it is not as good of a buy at this point in time. Care to prove me wrong?
2. I'm not. Never did. You cut out a single line in my entire explanation are are quoting out of context. Care to be honest next time?
3. Once again, you are being disingenuous and participating in strawman arguments. You're being intellectually dishonest.
4. 12% performance boost, under Fable Legends, with an R9 390x going up against a Factory overclocked GTX 980 Ti Strix by Asus is not 1FPS. Ashe's of the Singularity shows similar results. Under DX11, an R9 390x is only 7% slower than a GTX 980, on average across a wide range of titles as per TPU. 7% Slower under DX11 and 12%, or more, faster under DX12 means that the R9 390x is a better buy. Simple mathematics. UE4 is an nVIDIA favored Engine as well FYI. You also need to factor in the Price/Performance of an R9 390x relative to a GTX 980. I did this in a prior post. All of this together points to the GTX 980 being overpriced.

Have a read, for the reasoning behind these statements:

I do not disagree with this at all. GTX 980 is indeed overpriced. thumb.gif

Its either GTX 970 or GTX 980Ti from Maxwell imo. Rest is pretty uninteresting

and that's why people like you don't understand why nvidia has such a big lead over amd. you are making a big mistake with your way of thinking that it's all just "simple mathematics". there are so many more deciding factors. maybe a person buying gpu requires CUDA for this work, or maybe he loves shadowplay feature, or maybe he simply liked game bundles with nvidia gpu, and let's face it, nvidia had some amazing games bundled with gpus last 1-2 years. you aren't telling us anything new, nvidia gpus historically were always a bit more expensive, yet people keep buying them instead of cheaper competition, for many many years. and your "simple mathematics" argument goes out the window.

You forgot one thing, the price of the R9 390 has dropped since the time those numbers were drawn up. At the time those numbers were made an R9 390 was more expensive than a GTX 970. Now both can be had for $280 from Newegg (on sale or with a rebate) or $320 at their regular prices. This is under DX11. This pricing changes the results from TPU. I explained this in my post on the subject.

When you factor in DX12 performance of which we now have a pretty good idea, a GTX 970 becomes overpriced by a fair margin going forward.

These are the prices used by TPU at the time those numbers were published: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

The difference, in pricing, between $310 and $330 is 6%. Therefore at $280 each (GTX 970 and R9 390) then the price performance has a 1% difference favoring the GTX 970 under DX11 (this is with Project Cars included, without project cars the R9 390 would win quite easily). Under DX12 the R9 390 competes with the GTX 980. Therefore if someone is buying a GPU now, it makes no sense to ignore the current DX12 trend.

Hope that explains it.

You can`t "explain" DX12 because there doesnt exist a single DX12 game out there.
We have seen 3 benchmarks in which AMD did better on 1 while the 2 other Nvidia was on top.

Seriously give it a rest. We still don`t know how DX12 will turn out for any of the companies until we see a finished game out there
